OK...

I am shopping for a been there done that small gaited horse. Am being brutally honest with myself.. I know what I have now... are not good for a part gimp person. Hubby doesn't want to see me hurt any more than I am and I can understand that.

Soooooo....

With the money right now I can do one of two things..

Buy that Dominiak Carriage from Poland.. "Pony Shetty mini mix" like I have been wanting. Though Theia is going to need to get started under harness for a bit before I can pair her with her mother.

The shippments are only once a year and the shippment needs to be done this month.

However,, I totally trust Maggie as one can trust a horse. She is the one I go to when I don't want worry about the spooky and sillyness of the big Ponies/horses.

She has her own nice cart already.

OR...

Do I want to hold off just in case just the right small gaited horse/pony comes along?

I know what I want is out there, just really hard to find. But with the right horse..using them as physical Therapy has helped me like nothing else has been able too. But the Key is smooth gaited (Tolt/Corto/etc) and mellow and level headed.

Sigh ~ ~ ~

Would like to have both but can't. Am driving myself silly.

Horse. You don't seem to drive Maggie (or at least we don't hear about it) much more than I drive Kody, and you've already said that you can't get out to check your fencelines with anything short of a ridden horse. Theia can get started in her mother's cart and learn all the basics in the coming year, and as next year's shipping date comes around again you can start the two of them grounddriving as a pair. By the time the cart gets here, you'll have them trained. Right now it sounds like you need a horse a lot more.

Thank you for the voice of reason Leia.

Think I knew it in my heart.. but since I am so far out in the tweeds, I don't really have anyone to mull it over with in person.

You are right.. I do need a good level headed gaited horse to help me with the place.

Have more, no trespassing signs to put in the saddle bag, to take out and attach to the fencing. But I am not sure if I want to, with what Dyfra pulled the last time. That wasn't a little blow up she had. Sigh ~ ~ I just never know with her.

When we have good weather I drive a lot more. But I sure don't during the wet season. Theia would do fine in her mother's cart. Will most likely start her in the spring, if my leg heals.

We are hoping to bring DH families old Farm tractor up on the 15th. Would use it to make paths at least in the fields. No way I would or could get it into the woods.

So at some point I will have more paths to drive. But we would not be able to do the paths until it dried up in summer because of the clay soil.

Off to do more horse shopping.

I vote horse, too. Because if the right horse does come along, there are no duplicates. If it's the right one, that's it. The right ONE. You can always get the cart later, even though you get that chance just once a year. You still know you can get the exact cart later, but the exact horse is a one of a kind situation.

Also, I know not everyone at all would feel this way, but after I got A and B driving minis, I had no interest in driving my "big" horse, Rocket. The minis do not get tired even if I want to drive a long time and they hook up way faster and better views than of Rockets big red butt. I sold his cart and harness a couple years ago since I just had no desire to hook him up anymore.
