I found out late last night my brother is going in the 28th for triple bypass surgery.

he told my sister not to tell me as he knows i will be in New Mexico and won't be home til the 30th.

The doctors say hes in good shape for the shape hes in. Overweight with diabetes, but say his heart has 70% blockages but its in good condition?

Now a friends brother just had it done and she says he will be out of it for about 3 days,do you think this is true, would he even know if I was there or would I be safe to come back on the 30th??

I know his wife and grown daughters are there,so on the one hand I feel guilty but on the other hand I need to be in New Mexico????

He also told my sister not to tell me as he knew I was going but she told me she knew I would probably break her kneecaps for HER for not telling me!!!! He is a Reiki master as his is wife and we have him locked into the healing circle so feel pretty safe.

Jeesh seems like a pox is on this school, 3 husbands died, one 35 year old teacher had a heart attack, 2 heart operations, maybe I had better get the heck out of here!

Anyways could you please take a minute to say a prayer for him???

I know your very busy but would appreciate it.

Thanks

Bonnie

Prayers on the way Bonnie!

My hubby had a quintuple bypass three years ago. While it is a barbaric surgery, the recovery was amazingly fast and the results are instant. Darrin came out of surgery with more color in his cheeks than he'd had in years. Darrin was in CICU for 3 days, pretty much out of it and on a vent the 1st day. After about a week, he said his leg hurt (from the vein harvesting) more than his chest. That was our experience. Hoping all goes smoothly for your brother. PM me if you'd like more details or if you just want to chat.

For sure the procedure is not near as dangerous as any heart surgury was not that many years ago but it is still a major procedure. I will join in your prayers and thoughts for a fast and complete recovery for him. Remind him to keep on top of that diabetes as well. The side effect of that disease can result in many other problems. With you in thought and prayer.

My brotherinlaw had that surgery and he has done well for 20 years -- now he may have to have it done again -- my sister is not talking -- so I don't know what is really going on with him.. but apparently he is doing well enough to be back teaching school again.

Keep us posted about your brother -- and if it were me, I would go to Mexico and see him as soon as I returned -- as he Wishes it to be that way.

Thank you everyone,I guess it helps that he has not had a heart attack. I plan on calling him tonight when I get home .

I know what he will say tho, he will kick my ^&*(6 if I stay. We have been so close over the years we are 11 months apart and can finish each other sentences even.

It is in my wil that I don't want him anywhere near my funeral,(because of vietnam he has issues)

he is to say goodbye at Mickey D's in our favorite booth. We even know when one of us is not doing well without being in touch. He is in Virginia my sister and I in New hampshire.

Her and I had just said last weekend something is up with Bob,hes not doing well, BUT darn it we didn't pursue it.To busy don't ya know.....

Thanks everyone your words are more appreciated than you will ever know.Hugs

You can go Bonnie. He knows you and how much this holiday away means to you. What a lovely gift to give you and when you return he'll be feeling up to your sisterly hugs and teases. Fly safely, have fun and I'll be praying for him.

Bonnie,

Prayers definitely ..... already done. I would do as he wishes and go on your trip.....

My father had a triple by-pass done many many years ago. He took horrible care of himself with little excersize, rich food, etc.... He was up and back to work in a couple of weeks and lived almost another 20 years.

My great Aunt had bypass surgery and she was home within a week (actually a few days if I remember correctly)... she felt better immediately after the surgery than she had right before... She was up and moving around and doing great! I'll keep him (and you in my prayers and thoughts) preparing for the surgery and after... I'm sure everything will come out just fine!

Hi Bonnie,

Prayers for you and your bother. I worked on the cardiac team in Boston before I moved down here, scrub lots of bypass surgeries. My husband had to have open heart surgery a couple years ago, a valve replacement. He was out of it the first day or so. Recover is remarkably quick considering where they are operating.

Enjoy your trip, it will make your bother happy. Prayers to all.

I was absolutely amazed at how fast he recovered...the very next day he was up-n-at-'em. And this was immediately after he had two heart attacks in less than a week; one while at home, and the other while still in the hospital from the first one. (His earlier heart attacks had been seven years previous.)

Remind him to keep on top of that diabetes as well. The side effect of that disease can result in many other problems.
You're right, Geese...that was the cause of my Father's heart problems in the first place. Diabetes is so much harder on the organs than many people know.

I'm so glad he is getting this taken care of before it causes a heart attack. You know my prayers are joined with the rest! Please don't feel bad for going. You will still be with him!

Bonnie,

You need to go if not for any other reason because he wants you to. He wont know about your visits anyway the first day or two and he would know that you postponed or didnt go because of him if you dont go. One thing you dont want to do is stress him out feeling bad cause you didnt take your vacation. Go have a great time and take pictures to share with him on your return. If the tables were reversed you would insist that he go. Prayers from here as well.

Prayers on the way! It is amazing how fast they recover now a days. He also has the fact that he hasn't had an MI on his side. It sounds to me like he didn't want you to change your plans. I would definately call him right up until he goes in! He knows you'll be there in spirit!

OH Bonnie,

Keeping your brother in my thoughts and prayers. And please do like everyone else says. Go on your trip. Leave a number with family where you can be reached and call every day for updates so that you will not worry so much. But since your brother wants you to go, then do as he wishes. He knows how much you love him and you can certainly tell him that before you leave on your trip.

Yep, members of my family have had bypass surgery. Your brother will be fine and will be feeling better quickly.

Hugs and love and light.

Bonnie, go to NM. Jerry and I were married at the end of Jan. 2000, on April 1st, he called me and told me he was going to the hospital by ambulance, because the Dr. was afraid he had had a heart attack. I thought it was an April Fool's joke. It wasn't! After going in the hospital, they found he had not had a heart attack yet, but was about to, did tests, and he ended up having 5 bypasses. He is fine now, but has familial cholesterol problems, must take Lipitor, and watch his diet. When Jerry had his bypasses, he was out of it for about 2 days. Kept that way, so as not to disturb the healing, and kept out of it to keep the blood pressure low so as not to put strain on the "new" viens. We could only visit for 5 minutes every 4 hours. He didn't remember much about us being there at all, so go to New Mexico, have a good time, and know that all of us on the forum are praying for him.

Thank you everyone! It looks like he might need a 4 way by pass or whatever you call it. It seems the insurance company is trying to make him go to a doctor and hsopital he does not want to go to. The cardiac Dr said it should be done by the first of the year at the latest.*&)(*^&*&)^&%(*&_))^E#$%^#$#67 insurance companies!!

I will go on the trip because he insists and you are right he won't know and they know how to get in touch if need be.

I know he will be okay hes to darn ornery to do anything else!!!!!!

Please Pray

Bonnie

Bonnie,

Sending prayers for you and your brother. We have been through it as well with my dad. The immediate difference was incredible, and it bought him 8 years he wouldn't have had. Enough time to know his granddaughters.
