I dont want to upset anyone, but i am noticing something and wanting to inquire.

I have noticed that many of the stallion ads dont show the stallions legs/feet... why is this?? i know a nice head and neck is important, and that its most likley due to the fact that everyone wants to focus on the head and neck... but i think that legs and feet are important too??

just wanting an explination and not wanting to start a fight or anything

I'm not sure where you are seeing the ads, but I can take a guess as to the reasoning. Most people pick the Beauty shot to grab people's attention. Legs are not the most beautiful part of a hrose, they are important, but not an attention grabber. So you showcase the horse's best features to grab attention. I'm sure if you contacted any of the owners they would be happy to show you full body shots and pictures of the legs, but when paying for advertising, you use the pictures that is going to draw attention the best.

I should add that often times it works on me, grabs my attention with a beautiful head and neck. If it is in an add like the Miniature Horse World, I don't think much of it. But if it is an ad specifically trying to sell the stallion or breedings to him, I often do wonder what the rest of his confirmation looks like. If I am trying to sell a horse or breeding, and I am limited to one picture, I use a full body shot so everyone can see there is nothing to hide and there is more to the horse than just one feature.

I have noticed this too and I like to see an ad with both a body and head and neck shot. I will look at an ad and say o gorgeous head and neck but probably has bad conformation so I just keep looking.

I just let them know to email me for info and any additional photos. Im new to stud service and learning as I go myself. But I think in my opinion that most folks have the head/neck shots shown more is because it is a closer view of their horse. And if you are interested in seeing the rest of the stud, they are more than happy to show you other photos. It might be also that the more photos you have advertized the more it costs too. Or just because some of the big known farms do it and it works for their adds, so do they. Again this is only my opinion/guess. I hope Im not stepping on anyones toes either.

The photo used is a magazine is often a "grabber" photo - to get your attention. I know in the recent stallion issue of the MHW, we put in three small ads of stallions that we stand to outside mares. Two of the ads were head and neck because the size of the picture is so small. If you check out the websites (at least in ours) you will find full body photos. I know that I always have side view standing photos of the horses available just for that reason. As a stallion owner, I would never object to any questions a mare owner has.

For sure if you are paying to advertise you are going to play up that horses best asset so if its the head and neck you want to show it. We make sure that we get body and head/neck shots of all of ours and makes no difference if its a mare or stallion.

Sometimes if it is a magazine ad, you are limited to space you can use. I did head shots last year with two stallions. This year I did a head shot and a body shot below with just one stallion in the ad.

I never mind sending other pics (including just pasture pics) for anyone who is interested. If they seller/breeder/owner does not want to send leg pics, just keep looking. Some horses do have nice heads but not so nice other features.
