Will someone please tell me when breeding minis, the stallion is usually smaller or same size as the mare ( for a safe delivery) and in the bigger breeds they breed pony's to much bigger stallions and other breeds are bred this way to and mare still delivers safely?

Why can't the minis do this, other than keeping the small size?

Just curious if there is really that much different in their body shapes?

Thanks.

I'm sure you will get many responses, but from what I believe, it's not so much the height but the build that is the most concerning regarding safe deliveries. When I think of people breeding for sport ponies, the stallions are usually fine boned TB or similar. With mini mares, for mine anyway, I would not be too concerned if the stallions are taller so long as they are refined in their build.

Honestly I dont think there isa huge difference. I think the biggest difference is people are so afraid there minis will go over and then be rendered useless.

I know of many although personally I think I might do it the opposite that breed fine boned light horses to draft or large warmblood stallions even a T/B to a big warmblood or a arab ect..

I think that one big reason is because that minis *can* have more problems foaling, and if one has a good-sized foal in a mare and you need to get your hand in there to fix foaling position, there isn't much room at all to manuever.

Personally, I'm much too protective of my mares to be breeding them to big stallions-- they have enough to deal with having foals of small stallions. JMO.
