Im pretty sure that I want to go to a culinary school! Id like to go to either the Atlantic Culinary Academy or Southern New Hampshire University. Both are realatively close (under an hour) & have respectable culinary programs.

Ive just spent the day making pies for tomarrow (still have a lemon meringue to make) & Its been a wonderful day for me! Sure I dont like the mess but the cooking makes it all worth it. I love to cook & I just realized I can actually do it for a living! Im not sure why it took me so long to realize this. Anyway, opinions? A Parents perspective? What would you say if your kid decided thats what they wanted to do?

I have a friend who makes more than $100,000. a year working 8 mos. He works summer in Va Beach at the OMni, and he works in the winter in Vail Co. at a ski resort. He's very happy doing this but when he works he works very hard long hours.

Thats also on my list as well. I get my cooking from my momma!

I have the rest of this year to decide though before i graduate.

I have managed to narrow it down to 3 or 4 professions.

Go for it!

My brother and his best high school friend both LOVED gourmet cooking and started a catering business. They were very successful for about three summers and got written up in the newspaper and various culinary publications.

My brother went on to Stanford University and was the cook for his frat house which gave him free room and board.

Greg went to Paris to further his culinary skills and stayed. His last position before he died was as the first American to be the Director of the Cordon Blu School of Culinary Arts in Paris. He also co-authored a couple of cookbooks.

So, yes......you CAN make a wonderful profession out of cooking.

MA

PS: I should add that before Greg and my brother, Dan, started their own catering business, they worked parttime for a local catering business during high school which helped show them how they could do it themselves.

If you are the chef you don't have to worry how much mess you make because someone else is the clean up person.

Barnbum- I have actually already thought about that. I enjoy it very much and I could do it all day. I love to cook for other people. Thanks for mentioning that though. I once thought about making another hobby a proffesion but I realized that I like it because it is fun & I dont have to do it all the time.

Today im making the turkey & it already smells so good. I love cooking because its so great when someone tells you how good the food tastes. & even if they think its horrible it gives me something to improve on. I love trying new recipes & techniques.

Well, I am the same way. I used to have my own catering service but had to stop when I went thoruhg my divorce and now I am looking at opening a small "boutique" restaurant. I am so excited and have the name picked out and the menu and everything.

If it is soemthign you truly love to do and could do it day in and day out, aboslutely go for it! I wish I had been able to have that opportunity when I was younger.
