Good Morning,
Each Registry has their place. I know there are a lot of folks that visit here that don't really know the history behind each Registry.
The American Shetland Pony Registry (ASPC) was the first Registry to keep the registrations on horses being imported into the US back in 1888. They were the first Registry to create the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) thus giving a 34" & Under Division. There were several folks who didn't like it when the ASPC/AMHR created the "B" or over division and they broke off of the ASPC/AMHR to create the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA). In looking back at both associations Standard of Perfection they read pretty much the same. Guess that is why AMHA adopted some of the same rules of the AMHR and created other rules that would benefit their association for their needs only?
One comment that kept coming up was a better "Standard". How many of you know what the defination of "Perception" is? In one simple word..."Impression". What one's impression is of an association isn't the same for another. My perception (Impression) of AMHA is an association for the Rich and Famous....my perception (impression) of the ASPC/AMHR is for the common or working class folks. Does it mean that the horses in each association is any better than the next? No, it just means that if you have the money you can play in the sandbox with AMHA ( Rich and Famous), if you don't then you can come to the ASPC/AMHR sandbox(Working Class), play and do with them.Again MY perception or Impression of each associaiton. To each his own. What are YOU more comfortable with and what is being offered in your area. Not every area has AMHA shows as well as AMHR shows. Yes, each association has their ups and downs, for NO association is perfect!
Another statement made twice...A True Miniature.....what is a True Miniature?...well here is my accessment of a Miniature Horse...something we all can relate to from the dog world:
Tea Cup: 28" & Under
Toy: Over 28" to 32"
Miniature: Over 32" to 34"
Standard: Over 34" to 38"
What is a Miniature Horse? Anything under 14.2...old timers saying/calling them....a pony....but they are all in the same catagory....Tea Cup, Toy, Miniature Horses, which they are.... same as.... Ponies which they are. The main thing is that each and every one of us has our likes and dislikes, just like we have our likes and dislikes with each Association. We still need them BOTH.
It's time that we all work toward a common goal and that is to support the registry of YOUR choice...support that Registry to be sure it stays viable and strong for years to come. One Registry isn't better than the other...it goes back to my question...what is Perception?....what is your impression?....as in the old saying...Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder...one's beautry isn't the same as anothers. An AMHA horse isn't any better than an AMHR and visa vera. It' the same horse with two seperate sets of Registration papers. What one judge see's is different than another. What one pays for a horse is different than another. Same horse same price, but what one perceives and thinks makes the difference in how you look at a miniature horse or the association that you belong to.
Interesting thread and comments.
