This is one place in all of the travels I've been on either by myself or with Larry on his trips that I have NEVER experienced!

A dear friend of mine has a time share in the French Quarter of New Orleans and she needs to use her "time"....so she's invited three of us to join her for FREE in early April......for a GIRL'S time. (I haven't been away from the family in seven years!)

So, my LB'ers, I need your advice.......

What to WEAR during the first week of April

What to try to SEE in New Orleans

What restaurants do you recommend???

Oh, thought you'd get a kick out this one......When I started making the plans, our 11 year old daughter pipes up with -- "Mom! If you go -- WHO is going to COOK? WHO is going to get me up and ready for school???"

Larry turned and smiled at her and said, "It's all ME.....and PEANUT BUTTER."

I have never been, but my Mom loved going to Preservation Hall, if it is still there. They had an in house jazz band.

We will be there in Feb 2010 for the AMHA convention, can't wait.

I haven't been to New Orleans in many years, certainly not since Katrina - but it was fun and the food was great! Take loose clothes LOL, and eat well!

It was a lifetime ago that I went, and I wonder what is really left after Katrina. Just plan lots of time for walking up and down Bourbon Street! So many unique shops, bars, restaurants and most all have (had) live musicians. If it is still available, take the horse drawn tour and see the historical and notorious part of old New Orleans. I remember a couple in particular, "The House of The Rising Sun", and one that had wrought iron fencing around it with corn stalks (in wrought iron), because a man loved his wife so much and she came from Kansas, and he had it made especially so she wouldn't be so homesick. There are (were) so many things to do, and all so much fun. Hope it is still that way when you go!

Haven't been since the storm. But there is a US Mint there--closed around 1910 or so. Outlying plantations have living museums. The trolley is how we went just about everywhere.

I loved visiting the swamp, but I heard it is all gone. If not, you might enjoy it--it's beautiful. Jean Lafite Park is where we went.

There used to be a wax museum. I went there, but I'm not crazy about them.

Preservation Hall has live jazz--usually a line to get in and standing room only. It is in the Garden District.

Gumbo Shop on St Peter Street.

There is/was a Green Market downtown on Saturdays. Have your palm read and take a carriage ride.

Thanks Folks! I'm taking down notes!

[SIZE=12pt]It gets hot there so bring shorts and sun dresses. You'll love the Imax Theatre, the Aquarium, the shops, the open market

, take a tour of the Garden Section, and the cemeteries, ride a trolley, walk through the Riverfront mall. Go to a blues club on Bourbon street. Go to the casino. Go on the ghost tours of the haunted New Orleans buildings. And get your fortune read LOL! I love New Orleans! But haven't been there since Jan of 05, before Katrina

I haven't been there in forever; my sister used to live there. You must go to Cafe Du Monde and have beignets (pronounced "ben-yays") and coffee/tea. Beignets are yummy! It's a great people watching spot, if I recall correctly. It's in the French Market.

Have a great time!!
