I've already visited CMHR website and plan to print out the paperwork and become an approved adoption home and member of CMHR, but anyone that frequents this forum that knows of a dwarf needing a permanent home, please let me know. I may just continue to use our 28" mini, he has the right personality and has visited schools and is great with children, but we will be showing him almost every weekend this year and I'd like him to have a break during the week.
I have a lot to learn though, about health care and expected lifetime special needs and dwarfism issues with teeth, legs, hooves, etc.
I have a baby with special needs - he was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate - so I am at Gillette's Childrens Hospital in Minneapolis/St. Paul every week and I am interested in bringing a dwarf mini in to visit the children there. I think for the children at the hospital to have the chance to meet a little tiny mini that has special needs like they do would be really special and memorable. When I am in the play area there waiting for appointments and talking to other parents and meeting their children, I am so thankful and feel so fortunate that my child has a birth defect that can be completely corrected and he will be able to run and play and just be a normal kid. Many of the children are struggling just to live day to day with their medical problems and may never live to be an adult or be able to live independently.
The other reason I've started looking for a dwarf for the visits is I'd also like to have a mini small enough to be able to comfortably ride in a van or back of a large SUV so we wouldn't have to take a trailer in to the city.
Anyway....I may already have all the dwarf related websites bookmarked, but I'd appreciate it if people could post good links and websites for me to visit and keep me in mind if you know of one needing a home.
