Has anyone read her new book for adults, The Casual Vacancy? If so, what was your opinion on it? I'm just curious because I haven't read it yet (not really sure if I want too?).

I did recently hear that she might write more Hogwart's related books (not Harry related). Any thoughts on this?

I haven't read it but had thought of getting it. However, I think I may be the only person around who hasn't read the HP books or seen the movies!!! I do HAVE the books (audio) but haven't listened. I just haven't thought I'd like them, but I probably really would if I gave them a chance. Everyone else does!!!

Oh Jill, you've got to experience the world of Harry Potter! You've just got to! I watched five of the movies before I ever read any of the books. I couldn't wait to find out how the series ended and the movies were coming out too slowly (can't rush perfection! Lol). The books are amazing! But the movies are excellent too, and I loved already having a feel of what the characters were like and how they looked before starting the books. Watch the movies first, I promise you won't be disappointed...especially if you like younger-themed books (Twilight, Hunger Games). The H.P. story starts out kinda cutesy, but it gets much darker as it progresses. I'd be interested to hear who your favorite charactor is because mine doesn't seem to be anyone elses choice. :-}

I've never read Harry Potter either. I tried reading the Lord of the Ring books while at work but was interrupted so much that I never did get into them.

Well now I must know-who's your favorite HP character? Mine was always Snape, even when I thought he was evil.

I loved the first few HP books, but was bored with the last couple. I so loved her humor in describing his first purchases for school...the book titles and brooms were great.

Ohmt, he's my favorite too! LOL! From the moment they first show him in the movie, sitting at the dinner table. From there he only got more awesome! But then, I've always loved Alan Rickman. I even have a poster of Snape hanging in my office. :-}

Lucky Seven, was LOTRs hard to follow? I have them but am kind of scared to start them. I don't know if I fear they'll be boring or confusing. Lol.

I did like Twighlight, but am not sure about The Hunger Games. H and I listened to most of that when we went to get our puppy last spring (LONG road trip) and then finished it before bed one night. He liked it, and I didn't "hate" it, but I thought it was really dark and depressing... yet I am glued to the Zombie shows and books!!! I know, it makes no sense!!! I will give HP a try, though

I have never read the Hunger Games. It's never appealed to me because I work at a school and the thought of kids killing kids is an extremely touchy thing for me. I did see the movie at everyone else's urging, and while it was a good movie, it just doesn't seem like something I would want to sit down and read about. But everyone keeps telling me they are really good.

I love Lord of the Rings, but it takes a bit of dedication to get through the battles (not my thing).

For those who have read it or seen the movie...the wind symphony I used to perform with played a fantastic composition based upon LOTR, and Gollum was portrayed by the soprano saxophone. Guess who played that instrument? ...my precious....

That's really neat! I can't imagine how many songs were used for the composition.

I can't wait for the new Hobbit movie. Has anyone heard whether they decided to keep it as one movie or split it into more?

Kanoas, I found tlotr's hard to get into. I couldn't believe it was a kids book. I finally donated the series to my local library to sell for a fundraiser. Maybe this winter I will take them out one at a time and try to read them.

When the Harry Potter books first came out, I wasn't interested in them. (I thought they would be too childish.) We saw the first movie only because it played at our local drive-in with a movie we really wanted to see. I didn't really start getting into the series until the fourth movie when the story started to get darker. Then I got hooked! Lol.

Kanoas-they split the Hobbit into two movies.

LOTR books are hard to beat. Take a little while to get into, but it's just amazing what the author did. Created a whole world and a complete history behind it (there are actually something like 15 or so books if I remember right about the world he made up and its history) and a whole language. The story lines are so good.

Hunger Games is one of my favorites

While J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit as a children's book and initially intended LOTR as a sequel, he ended up taking it in quite a different direction. I would never consider LOTR as children's literature, and much of his world view would be lost on most children.

It is dark and difficult reading at times, but lyrically beautiful at others. As I said, I am not one for long tales of war, but these are more than made up for with worlds and characters such as the Shire, Rivendell, Lothlorien, the Ents (anthropomorphic trees), etc.

Love Snape, of course, but my favorite is Mrs. Weasley. Love how she took out Bellatrix.

I LOVE the Harry Potter movies and books! The books are SO much richer, the characters much more detailed and defined. I watch the movies over & over. And the books too!

OOHH I DO loves me some SNAPE! Way sexy!
