I will be purchasing a camera or two here real soon and was wondering if any camera would work to get on with the Mare Stare website? Sam's has a couple different wireless cameras for a good prices that I was looking at and then it dawned on me, I could probably use them with Mare Stare come May when I will have 3 mares due! I got really excited about the idea but want to check if it would work before I did purchase them.

Any suggestions on any cameras would be HIGHLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello,

How far are your foaling stalls from the house? Also, is your barn metal or.. ?? My foaling stalls are close, so I have a camera that runs a line to the house (my bedroom is on that side too) and into the TV in my room. The neighbors next door have a wireless camera, but, I understand some of them do not work if they have to go far or if there is metal siding on the barn to interfer. Perhaps someone here with a wireless setup can help with more info.

My camera has night vision- I would DEFINITELY make sure it works in DIM light, as I only leave a small light on outside, and also has sound.

I purchased the wireless camera from Sam'a last year and like it. If you have a metal barn, as I do, then the picture won't be as good. We set our camera in the large sliding doorway in front of the foaling stall and can get a much better picture than if it is placed in the barn. If you have a metal barn, I would suggest not getting a wireless. dionne

We also had trouble with a wireless because of the aluminum siding on our house and we are only 66 feet from the barn. So had to go non-wireless and run the wire from barn to house. That works good.

I bet Heather at marestare.com can help you figure out which camera might work best with going on line with.

We use several different brands of cameras and in fact one was purchased at Sam's. They all work well and we run them to 3 different locations in our house and 1 in Jose's house all from the same cameras.

The wireless did not work well for us, but the wired cameras do. We run the cameras inside the barn and also in the foaling pasture to a hub and then out to the different locations. You can buy more coaxial wire on line from a number of different suppliers, look at the wire and on most of them the type, size etc is on the outside covering. You will need to duplicate that wire.

We are about 250' from the barn and Jose is about 160' from the barn so we had to buy the coaxial cable sperately as most of them only came with 50 or 100 feet.

Good Luck the season is long and any help you will love,

OK, the barn is an open pole barn as we are in Florida and cold is not an issue rather hot is, however, it has a metal roof and our house is a block home with metal roof. The barn is no more than 150 feet from the house. Wireless or cable, hmmm???

I think I will get a hold of Mare Stare and ask their suggestions too.
