Is anyone here planning on attending this weekends AMHR/ASPC show in Marianna, Fl?

Ruth and I will be showing and driving our shetland for the first time and will also drive our "B" mare for the first time.

We have only seen shetlands show one time, so I hope we don't make complete fools of ourselves. But if we do, what the heck, won't be the first time and surely not the last.

I hope she brought some warm clothes. Hard to believe but the weatherman is saying there is a possibility of SNOW on Sunday in North Fla. and South Georgia. This has been a crazy winter here in Fla.

We are just outside of Marianna, Our local weather isnt expecting any snow to make it south of Birmingham, AL and Atlanta Georgia, It is Supposed to be warm on Saturday and start cooling off on Sunday and drop below freezing here Sunday night... Ohh and cant forget to mention the rain and storms possibly late tonight and through Saturday afternoon, Thankfully the arena and stall area is all covered and everythings close togather... It poured all day on Saturday last year at this show and everything but liberty went on as planned, they had to postpone liberty until sunday so everyone could hear the music......

We just finished showing Diesel, the shetland gelding we got last year, for the first time today. Diesel had been the subject of several posts on the pony forum because he was very spooky. It turned out, thanks to a visit from Carl Mitz and John Causey along with our vet and a vet from Missouri, that Diesel needed major oral surgery. He had that surgery a little over a week ago. His transformation has been remarkable. Today he won his 42-46 senior Gelding class, his senior gelding championship and the gelding championship. He also drove very well winning one first and one second. He did have a little trouble backing which we will be addressing in the future (not sure if it was mouth pain or some past bad behavior).

Tomorrow we will be showing our B mare for the first time. We did a little practice in the "big scary indoor arena with storms and wind blowing" this afternoon after the show. Hopefully all goes well. We have met a lot of very nice people and some of our old friends have been a tremendous help to us stubborn "do it ourselfers". Leah's, Dale & Roger's and the Rays shetlands are beautiful. And the rest of the horses here are just as competitive.

We strongly recommend this show. Nice facilities, easy to find, cheap hotels, and the judges have been so helpful you would swear it is a schooling show.

Wish us luck with Kahlua tomorrow!

Congratulations Gary, It was great to meet you, Diesel looked great today... You did very well showing him...

We had a good day today, our two year old mare Miss E's Island Sunset took Firsts in Liberty and our Senior Mare, Miss E's Kahlua N Cream took seconds in Liberty.. It was the first time into the showring for both of them.. All thier halter classes will be in the morning since today was all Stallions and Geldings...

I also took Gayle Rays (Silver Meadows) "B" Senior gelding in his Open halter class to Firsts, Two Grand Champions and Two Reserve Champion Supreme Gelding... He showed very well for me today..

Anyway time to get some rest, Tomorrow's going to be a very busy day....

Good Luck tomorrow Gary
