oh i hope you get some answers!! will look for an update later. sending good thoughts your way!

The vet just left and I wanted to update you all before I rush off to class (arghh). He thinks Melody has some kind of a infection such as a virus. He gave her a shot of banamine and left the paste for me to give her twice a day for two days. If she isn't doing better by the third day he will do blood work and further tests. Her fever was still 103 when he checked it and he said if it gets above 104 to call them right away. He told me to give her her regular dinner tonight since he was quite sure it wasn't colic. So I did. I will check on her when I get back this evening. I hope she will be a bit more perky. Please pray that she will get through this the rest of the way on her own. That was one hefty ranch call...but well worth it. I feel much better now

: Thanks again for all your support! I will give you an update tomorrow.

Poor little girl.

It's a worry, especially when they have a temperature.

Hope she improves very quickly.

Glad to hear you had the vet out. I don't have lots of money, either, and I hate the vet bills, but I used to work at a vet office and I have to say the most EXPENSIVE bills always happened when people waited TOO long. And lots of times the end results were not good.

Goodmorning everyone!

I went out this morning to find a much more chipper Melody :aktion033: . She still isn't herself completely but she was much better than yesterday. I gave her the dose of Banamine but was unable to take her temp (again) because my hubby accidently broke the "new" thermometer I just bought yesterday, trying to put it in it's tricky case lol. So I will go get another one this morning :bgrin She still didn't want her breakfast but she did go eagerly to the grass and start eating so at least thats something. I will give an update this afternoon/evening. Thanks for checking in :bgrin

I am so glad she is feeling better! Keep us posted on her progress!

Good news! I was thinking about her all morning waiting to hear how she was doing.

I just took her temp and it was 100.2 :aktion033: :new_shocked: :new_shocked: I hope she continues to improve.

Her temp was 99.5 this morning. She still doesn't seem to want her breakfast but she wanted grass again. Does it take awhile for them to start eating again??? She did seem even more like her old self this morning so that is good.

Eating grass is a good sign.Often when they will eat nothing elase, fresh grass is appealing. In our area, the grass dies off in the winter and doesn't grow much, but I always like to leave a few areas of tall grass around the barn area just in case I need it for a sick one in the winter.Good luck and keep us posted.

As of tonight she still didn't want her grain and pellets. I got her to eat a few handfuls this morning but that was it. She didn't even want her apple today

She has been eating the grass just fine so I have been trying to keep her busy with that. I have seen her drink too. Tonight was the last dose of banamine for her so if her fever comes back tomorrow or if she won't start eating then the vet will have to do more tests I guess....arghhh.

If she were mine, I'd also treat her with some probios and also for ulcers without a doubt.

I'm a professional worry wart.

: I got it from my mother. Hus wishes it had skipped a generation but no such luck.

That Melody is adorable.

Hugs

I didn't give her banamine this morning and she is already slowing down again. She won't even look at her food. Her temp was 99.5 this morning. I am going to check it at lunch since she hasn't had any meds since yesterday.

Marty the Probios is a great idea but all of the feed stores are closed around here on Sundays

So we will have to wait and see what her fever does without the banamine. I WISH SHE WOULD EAT  I checked both her feeds and they look fine. No mold and they smell good.

EDITED

Brandi, this is a little late as you're probably back from the feed store, but I've recently used B12 paste along with the probios with a weanling who didn't initially have a lot of appetite (perked him and his appetite right up).
