Mini horse forks

Do the "mini sized horse forks" have less space between the tines than a regular size fork? I have the regular size one, and the little apples are always falling through.

Nope the mini one I bought was a WASTE same spacing.

I tried the one marketed for use with woody pet bedding and funny enough they are spaced close enough for you to pick up the woody pet pellets...................

Mine works great. My sister and brother-in-law brought it for me from Indiana. It has plastic tines. curved on the back end for easy scooping, so you don't have to bend way over. Tines 1/2 inch apart. It says Union on the handle and has the # 76218 on it. If you want I will go out and take a picture of it even if it is really, really cold (BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR), I would do that for you. :lol: Let me know.

I love mine. Works super, especially when apples are frozen.

l ordered a couple just the heads from star Lake and they are smaller tines and work real nice.

well, i got two different ones. one works great, the other is a waste of money.

okay the first one i got is actually a dog pooper scooper. only it is built like a horsey scooper, with really close tines. only problem is, there's very few tines in all, so i cant use this for regular scooping, just to clean up what the big fork left behind.

then the second "mini scooper" i got is really for horses, from a mini horse site. piece of garbage! it's a mix between a plastic dog scoop, and a plastic dining fork. you know those little "spork"s you get at taco bell, half spoon half fork? resembles a giant one of those. the apples fall between the things on the end, and the shavings are the only thing that gets trapped in there! the exact opposite of what we need. also, the "extendable" handle really means, the "break-away" handle. if you extend it just enough to save your back, it comes apart. and it doesn't stay extended either. it shrinks down so you almost might as well use a dust pan! lol.

doggy scooper. works great for those tiny turds that the big one didn't get, but on it's own it takes FOREVER to do one stall. also, very small handle, makes you bend over. not fun for extended usage, but for those little turdlettes left behind it's good.

and the stupid good-for-nothing one. see how it catches shavings, but the apples fall through! RIP OFF! (and mom paid 20 bucks for it! :lol: )

: hope that helped though. with the two working ones i have , i go around and get piles, then go back to get little ones, and it gets our stalls clean. don't know what i'll do about the extra one. hope that helps you decide on what to get. (steer clear of any "bowl-like" designs!)

I also buy my mini forks thru Star Lake, the tines are closer together and do a great job. I keep one in my barn and one in my trailer.

I use a Fine Tines fork and absolutely love it! Well, as much as you can love that sort of thing!

I have the regular version and they also make a smaller version. I got mine at Tractor Supply, but I understand they are no longer going to be carrying them.

What you probably need is called "Fine Tine Fork". I have 2. One is bigger with a regular length handle and the other has a little bit shorter handle and is smaller. Yes the tines are closer and I love it! I'm only 5'3" and the smaller lighter weight one is the best for me.

Yep -- Fine Tine all the way. It lets the sawdust drop thru but not the mini apples. Have been using one for years.

Thanks everyone for the very helpful info. I think what I'll do is order 1 of the Star Lake and 1 of the Fine Tine, and then let hubby decide what he likes best.

I have the bigger Fine Tines fork and love it but i'd like to try the smaller one. The only place i've seen the smaller one for sale is the Woody Pet web site, does anyone know where else I could get it?

When I got my first mini I bought the fork that you posted a pic of (3rd one down) and yes it was no good, it got the small bits but it also got a lot of shavings that wouldn't sift out.

I'm another "Fine Tines" fork lover! :aktion033: In fact, the guy who invented it lives just 10 miles from me. I have both the small version & the large version. It took me a while to get used to the large version's weight (as there are more tines) but it doesn't bother me now. Funny thing tho....I have noticed that the large one does seem to catch some of the pellets, forcing you to shake the fork more to get them to drop. BUT...the smaller one doesn't. So...for some reason, the smaller one must have a bit more space between the tines? I use the big one when the pelleted bedding is broken down, but use the little one when it is fresh & still in "pellet" form.

Believe me....I've tried every fork on the market, and while the "Fine Tine" fork may not be perfect....it is the absolutely BEST one I have found to use with pelleted bedding.

Ok, let me ask this question. We also use the fork for picking up outside in the pens. The Fine Tines doesn't look like it would be sturdy enough to handle being used outside, banging up against frozen dirt or manure piles. The way hubby (he cleans on weekends) is with tools, he can be pretty rough. The one from Star Lake looked a little more sturdy. In this case, I think having each kind might be beneficial?

I noticed too that the larger Fine Tine Fork catches the pellets before they are broken down, I just bang the fork on the floor and they fall out but it is a pain. I want the smaller version but was wondering where else they are for sale besides the Woody Pet web site.

We use our Fine Tines fork both in the barn and out in the corral, and it has held up just fine for four years. We couldn't do without it, but now that I know about thhe smaller model, we'll need to get that for shows and such.
