Hello,

I found the perfect miniature horse trailer, the layout ext is what i have been wanting. It has 3 tie stalls on the front and then 2 box stalls (

!!!!!!!!!) in the back. Here is my question though, the trailer is 60'' tall and the largest shetland on my show string will be a yearling next year and will mature around 44'' at adult height. Im thinking she would be fine in one of the box stalls, the tie stalls are set up for miniatures, but im trying to think practical. I've seen the trailer before at shows and i think it would work but i guess i just need a little reasurance

Has anyone had goodluck hauling their taller shetlands in miniature trailers?

I know everyone else will fit easily as they are all 39'' and under, she is the only extra large one lol.

Jet fits fine in our mini trailer. so far so good! patches is our biggest but I have never tried to put her on but rusty feels sure she would fit. we have that small shelter out back and patches fits easily in it and I believe its shorter then our trailer. the inside of ours is 5'

Leeana,

A 44" shetland in 60" tall trailer, I would be very concerned about head room. I wouldn't. Especially without a head bumper at the very least. I can't tell you how many horses die from injuries to their poll and this would be a very high risk with only 16" of head room.

See thats my biggest fear and the thing i would be most cercenred with :DOH! :DOH!

I think were going to go take a look at some dealerships sometime next week. Plus i know their is a chance she could possibly push 45'' or more and thats my biggest worry. Finding the right trailer is a pain in the you know what

Leeana, the former owner of my 5' bumper pull trailer did put a pony in it, I'd say right around 11hands. I would never have hauled him in it for the reason Carin says (head room). However, they do make 6' mini trailers. My Wrangler gooseneck is 6' tall and it would safely haul a pony

Something else you may want to consider (this is my dad talking now - very wise man!), you'll eventually sell this trailer for one reason on another. Trying to sell a mini trailer, you are very limited in potential buyers. Full size trailers have the added benefit of being easier to sell down the road. My trailer is 7' tall.

We have a miniature horse/shetland goosneck trailer that can haul both sized equine and our shetland stallions ...Story, Steel and our shetland mares that we just had sold, fits in fine and comfortable but ours was custom built by Wranger Trailers, but there is another company that does make custom trailers to fit your needs also that friends of ours purchased recently named Southern Diamond and they are less costly, they are getting a 4 horse bumper pull with a four foot dressing room.

Just depends what you want to spend but we always had full sized horse trailers until this one from Wrangler and it cut our fuel costs in half compared to the others since it is not as tall. There is a picture of our trailer on our web site on the links page with Wranglers web site address.

As far as re-sell value compared to a full sized horse trailer, I think there is enough people out there now adays that are into the miniature horses that you wouldn't have a problem selling one. We love ours and I know Jill from Va has one also from Wrangler and she is pleased also with hers.

When it was first delivered here, I kept going out time after time to look at it again and it was pouring rain. I wanted to sleep in it that first night, I was so happy about it (and still am!).

I think miniature horse trailers get a bad rap until a person tries them. I know when Lauras friend used my trailer to trailer to nationals last year he thought he would hate it. By the time he got to Tulsa he loved it and wanted to buy it from me on the spot. We just attended a fun show a few weeks ago and again someone tried to buy it. So I really think the resell on them is good.

The difference in gas is huge. We used to have a 2 hrse big trailer and it took 4 times the amount of gas to haul and I could only put maybe 3 horses in it. Everyone who borrows mine says its the easiest to pull trailer they have ever pulled even when full (can haul 7 horses)

Jet has never come close to hitting his head and all of mine are in dividers and tied.
