Ok, MItzy is on her 3rd week of heat. Still bleeding. I made an appointment for the 24th for her to get fixed. SO she should be out of heat by then.

My question is she just stinks!!!! I gave her a bath on Friday, but she smells like a dead animal. Are they supposed to stink that much?

Heh, heh, heh. Ah yes, the "joys" of a b*tch in heat! Some do put off quite the odor. Since you've already tried bathing her my best advice would be to get a doggy cologne and use it as needed.

She didnt start stinking until this weekend. I do surely hope she will go out of heat soon......... :new_shocked:

eww i don't envy you THREE weeks of it! yuck. Mine don't typically smell. they do a bit before they actually go into heat and smell a bit like garbage..LOL but not terribly so.. I'm assuming you must use a doggie diaper thingy>?? Get some pads that are odor eating and see if that helps.

I agree it is no wonder the boys will come from miles around...gag

I couldnt handle the smell so washed her back end up again. She still stinks but she is bearable now.

The last week she hasnt had anything on as Jack knows how to pull everything off.

Now she has a doggy one, with a human pad in it, as when she lays down everything hangs out other wise.

It is possible that she smells bad because she might possibly have a uterine infection. I would check with the vet, were I you.

Suzi you have a point.....

Has she been discharging the entire 3 weeks? that would be real unusual.......

my neighbors one poodle is a total huss....she has remained receptive for upwards of a month but never bled/discharged for much more than a week......

I'd give the vet a jingle.....

I have one of those noses that smells everything and a female dog in heat is just nasty to me

Yes for the most part. I dont think she really bled at all last week, at least I didnt find any on her blanket.

HOwever when I take her out to pee she does pee 3-4 different times but that has been through the whole heat cycle. I thought of that actually, but was gonna wait until she was out of heat and see if it stops. She just started stinking noticably like this last night.

Ash I'd take her in to the vet if it is pyo, she could get real sick real fast and they will have to spay to save her....I'd say it is worth the cost to be safe.....the only reason they don't usually spay during heat is the chance of excessive bleeding ...the risks of something like pyo is far more threatening.......

She doesnt stink near as bad now. I only get a wiff of it every now and then. Which it could be, because her undies need washing. Part of it could of been the kennel as well. I changed the bedding, and washed the tray. I didnt realize there was blood on the tray as well as all over her bed(the bed is just from last night/today.)

The smell, for lack of better discription, when it was strong smelt like placinta. She last night/today bleeding heavier then before, and its darker. In her heat cycle she should be at about the 4 day into the time she would actually get bred.

I will see what she is like in the morning and make a decision from there.

Hey Ashley. Odor comes from bacteria. Wonderful thing, those cooties. Location of all those bacteria?

1. Vaginal

2. Uterus

3. bladder

4. the moist hair and "folds" in her perivulvar area

While she is on the long side, 21 days is still in the range. I agree with getting her checked out however--better to catch an infection early, especially with her spay coming up. Good luck!

Well after washing her, the kennel and her bedding, she dont stink this morning. She does have a lot of hair on the inside of her legs. I tried trimming that down some as when she does pee and what not it does stick there. She has the typical cocker hair cut and has not ever had her legs or belly trimmed.

Don't know if this will help- but our Guy was stinkinging we would bathe him calogne him - it just got so terrible- I couldn't get rid of the smell on his body in his hair- every time someone touched him they came away smelling like him- not to mention what the car and house smelled like- took him to the vet- he had an yeast infection in his ears- ( which we had been wiping out daily but didn't put it with the body smell) put him on ear antibiotics and a good ear cleaning product and the smell was gone in 3 days!

Just a thought.
