Awesome pictures Nicole!

Molly is such a pretty girl.

It was good talking to you last night and I hope we can continue our "little friendship". Can't wait to meet you some day.

She's such a pretty colour!! Pregnancy really has dragged her down though, I hope you are piling the food into her!!

Thank-you!

Jane, you think she looks that bad?! I know she lost some weight, but you cant see ribs or anything. She is getting 8 pounds of 50/50 Mare and foal/Senior grain (She usually eats 2 cups of senior feed before the baby) and is getting 1 bale of hay a day!

Hope we can talk again soon Erin

Thanks for the Molly fix!

You can tell she is nurseing and that she does need some weight in some areas.........like her neck, withers, rump but if memory serves me correctly she is a older mare isnt she?

She looks great but I will agree with Jane. With winter coming on a bit more "padding" will do her well. I just love this mare!

Yes she is older (Shhhhh dont tell her I said that) she is 18 years young.

I was planning to wean Image this week but decided to wait untill he is 4 months old because he lost quite a bit of weight being as sick as he was SO if all goes well I will wean him at 4 months old (October 20) just for Mollys sake.

I didnt think she looked that bad though, maybe I should just go ahead and wean Image soon

Here she is well before baby Image, still think she looks that much different? (Minus the big belly)

So sad, I look at those pictures and go WOW where is her belly? Is that MY Molly?

Oh now we haven't said she looks bad at all. She looks wonderful. I definitely would NOT wean the baby yet. He's had a rough enough go, I'd be tempted to wait another month or so but he's your baby and she is your mare. Increasing her feed may help a bit. What are you giving her? Feeding babies takes alot out of some moms.

She gets 1 large coffee can of grain 3 times a day.

Her grain is Platform Senior and Platform Mare and Foal - she gets a mix. I belive I weighed it out to be 6-8 pounds of grain a day.

She is also on weight builder, mare plus, SOURCE, and corta-flex (If those make any difference)

She gets just under a bale of hay a day and 1/2 hour twice a day on really tall this years alfalfa/grass. And of corse Image shares everything she gets but he gets his own cup of grain 3 times a day.

Seems like a TON of food to me considering she used to eat 3 flakes of hay and 2 (8oz) cups of grain a day.

Molly is so pretty! I love all her dapples and her color is just STRIKING!!!

That makes me feel better.... Lord knows I would fling my self off a bridge if something ever happened to Molly - Although I dont think she would mind me cramming more food in her

Nicole,

Molly looks WONDERFUL!!!! She is such a pretty color and look how shiney she is. Why don't you ask your vet what he/she thinks?

Hey Nik, she's gorgeous as always.

EDITED to choose my words better:

Ya know Nic, I look at some of these young gals that are pregant and a week after they deliver they look like they were never pregnant in the first place but that wasn't me as I was much older having my kids and didn't spring back like them at all. If you think that Molly is a bit down in weight I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sonny is older and does eat a lot more now, about twice as much as you feed Molly, (Equine Senior) and he's not even lactating!
biggrin.gif
You have to consider her age and that she has a big baby on her. She may not spring back into shape perfectly but I wouldn't worry about it. But I think it's really just she's a bit out of shape and I wouldn't worry about getting her back into perfect shape either. My Holly is out of shape pretty bad right now and I have been giving her three feedings a day so she is certainly not doing without, she's just been used as a broodmare that's all.

Hey Nicole..

Don't worry, she looks fine... she is just at the end of her cycle of nursing a BIG foal... and please don't wean him until he is at least 4 months... he is not pulling her down that much to be thinking about weaning him any earlier... (especially since it has not been that long since he was sick...) she IS older..(I know, don't let Molly hear that...

LOL!) and with that is going to come just a little slower recovery time..

Give her a couple of weeks to transition from "milking mom" to "dry mom", then take some photos of her to see how she looks across her topline, I think she will surprise you and come back fine. Her attitude seems bright and her skin and coat are in EXCELLENT condition... all key factors to look for in a happy, healthy mare...
