I am pretty sure I have strep throat. I haven't been able to swallow without intense pain all day and haven't been able to eat or drink without experiencing pain. I don't have a fever or any nausea but my dad called earlier and told me that Strep is serious and I need to see a doctor. I told my mom and she denies I have strep, that I just have a sore throat, but honestly I have never had a sore throat like this and my lymph nodes are swollen.

The only way I can be sure is if I go to the doctor's. But nope, because I don't have the white spots in the back of my throat I obviously don't have strep. She is always like this. She won't take me to the doctors unless its an emergency, same thing with my horses and the vet.

Great.

Sweetie,

Even if there isn't the white spots yet, you can have it. It isn't anything to mess with. You will need antibotics.. Can't your dad take you?? Please take care.. Try drinking warm to hot things.. I would take you in a heartbeat, if I could..

I hope she will change her mind and get you to the doctors really soon. Wish I could take you in myself!

My dad lives an hour and a half away. He told me if my mom doesn't bring me today (he knows how she is) that he will drive up tonight and take me. I don't want him doing that because I know that my mom can take me since we have a hospital in town. She doesn't want to bring me to the hospital, she wants to bring me to the doctor's office but "they are all closed"

Strep isn't anything to play around with, even to try to guess at. I had strep as a young girl and it turned into Rheumatic Fever. Very scary and could have been fatal.

Gargle plenty of warm salt water and eat chicken noodle soup and warm sweet tea w/ honey. Hopefully your mom will see you to the Dr. soon.

I FEEL BAD FOR YOU. I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FEELING AS MY MOTHER WAS THE SAME WAY ABOUT BRINING US TO THE DOCTORS  I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON. I WOULD CALL YOUR DAD AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO. IS THERE ANY OTHER PLACE YOU CAN GO? SCHOOL NURSE?

GOOD LUCK, I WOULD TAKE YOU IN A MINUTE IF I COULD TOO!

Oh man I'm so sorry, I had strep this summer and I'm one of those people that won't go to the doctor unless I'm about to die

: Well, I went and got antibiotics  I was a dum dum and didn't go until the 4 th day of agony, can't eat, can't drink, can't swallow :nono: Bad idea, it was so set in by then that it took 3 more miserable days before the antibiotics kicked in enough I felt better. I sure hope she gets you in because waiting is not the thing to do with strep. Sending (((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))) and best wishes that you get to a doc and start feeling better soon

Infections are serious, infections that involve the Lymph nodes, even more so. These are the body filters and if they are swollen, they are working some major overtime to relieve you of this infection. One thing that i do to help mine out ( I have a systemic infection that comes and goes) is to drink a heavy glass of baking soda and water, heavy meaning as much baking soda as you can stand LOL Its nasty, believe you me, but it can help.

Good luck in getting your mom to take you. Can you make your own appt? Good idea about the school nurse too.

To help with the sore throat, gargle with salt warm water.

Hope your feeling better soon

There is a form of flu going around here, and it comes with a terribly sore throat. I speak from experience; I had it the end of November/early December, and it was nasty, possibly the worst sore throat I've ever had. The worst swollen glands I've ever had too. It wasn't strep, just a virus. There were times I couldn't eat because it hurt too bad to swallow. I made sure I took a Tylenol an hour or so before meal time, & that helped; a lot actually. The bad sore throat lasted a full week too, and then it did let up, but kept coming & going for another 2 or 3 weeks. I also had laryngitis after 4 days of sore throat--there were 3 days where I couldn't even squeak, then another few days of croaking.

I do hope you feel better soon!

Thanks guys.

I couldn't go to the school nurse because school was closed today. Mom may take me tomorrow if I am worst.

But I took some cough syrup (eew) and I felt a bit better so I quickly got something to eat and now I feel like its starting to hurt some more again. It got really bad before I took the medicine, I could barely talk.

I hope its just going away. My glands feel better too.

Oh honey, I am sorry.

I have had strep many times but the worst sore throat I ever had was when I had Mono.

Whether it is a virus, strep, mono or anything else, you will only know if you go to the doctor.

Sounds like whether your Mom or Dad take you either way you will get there. Try the Tylenol and salt water gargle maybe you can get some sleep.

Well if it is strep you will have spots in the morning. Then forsure get to the doc. I got strep on a sunday once and by monday my throat was almost totally closed.

Also if your insurance is on file at the doc, you should be able to go yourself with out a problem

Warm salt water gargle!! Bacteria hate the salt! Hope you feel better soon. :bgrin

I'm sorry you're feeling bad and hope you feel better soon!!!

My daughter seems to get a sore throat with every virus she picks up. Never has a fever though. After taking her to the doctor over and over through the years for her sore throats, I think she only had strep once. The rest of the sore throats were the reult of viruses. NOW.....no fever, no trip to the doctor's!! She gargles with salt water and takes some tylenol. Some of those lozenges for sore throats help too.

Jess,

How are you feeling today? I have been thinking about you al day yesterday.

Hope your better.

Hugs

Bonnie

I am angry that your mom won't take you. I sure hope she took you today. My daughter had strep a few times when she was a kid. One time, it turned into Scarlet Fever and she was miserable for a long time. You need antibiotics!!

Bonnie,

Thanks for your concern! I feel better today. My throat is still sore and red in the back (it wasn't yesterday) but I can eat and drink. I'm not going to the doctor's unless I get worst, but I was able to go to school without much discomfort. It was very scary yesterday, at some points I couldn't talk.
