Well, yes, the first one presented breech, got stuck and was already gone by the time we got him out....

THEN 2 very, very long hours later, we were on our way to the vet clinic for an emergency c-section.....

On opening her up, they found a rather large tear in her uterus (very close to severing the one horn)....BUT we have 9 LIVE pups!!!! We got all the pups going, though there were a couple that were a bit touch and go at the end.....

I've broken them into 2 groups for feeding, just to make sure they are all eating well for a couple of days!!!

They are all healthy pups....we weighed 2 (just haven't had time to weigh them all) and they were 325 & 350 grams....which is big for that many pups!!! All are brindle or black & white....don't know the counts on them...I'm just too exhausted right now. And I haven't determined how many of each sex.....I tried, but my brain crapped out on me :DOH!

Moxie is being a VERY, VERY good mom with them!!!

Congratulations Kathryn! Everyone's having big litters this year! I'm just glad that your girl is alright and the babies are well; ah the joys of whelping

So glad everything seems to be working out for Moxie. Sorry you lost one, but main thing is Moxie is alright. Congratulations on your beautiful Puppies.

Get your much needed and well deserved sleep. Keep us posted. Love puppy pictures.

So good to hear Moxie and the rest of the puppies are doing fine. I bet Moxie is glad it is over too. Will be looking forward to more pictures of Mom and her babies.

Congrats on a beautiful litter! Enjoy them while their small cause believe me they grow FAST and before you know it you'll have 9 little H*LL raisers running around hehe

Thanks everyone!!! I still haven't made it to bed yet....worrying about Moxie.....

They almost lost her during the c-section..... and if we hadn't taken her in when we did...just can't get that out of my head at the moment....but I think part of that is due to the lack of sleep!!!!!

Keep her in your thoughts.....I am much more worried about princess Moxie than the puppies at the moment....the puppies are all walking, talking, and mowing down!!!!

Oh, congrats! I am so relieved to hear everything is ok. I have been sitting here worrying about her and her puppies!

Did they have to spay her?

No, luckily they were able to stitch up the tear.....but I did ask about future breeding, and they said if I do, pretty much guarantee a c-section.....

my Mom was helping to do the gas machine (she was a reg. nurse and has experience using it on people!

). She said when they pulled out the uterus, Moxie went shocky....no pulse.....I remember hearing Mom kinda thumping Moxie's side and yelling at her....but I was soo busy with getting puppies 'going' that I didn't realize what was going on until they had it back under control.....thank god I was in another room, I probably woulda been done in seeing that.....

But I do have to stop thinking about it....she made it, and she has a wonderful bunch of puppies......

Ouch....am sorry to hear she lost a pup and had problems. But you got her help fast and look at all those puppies!!

Mama and puppies are looking good!

Oh my!! I'm sooo glad that Moxie is doing well. I would be in the same place you are and would likely just catnap next to the whelping box!! How very frightening. It sounds like she would've sacrificed herself to get those puppies. They are each such gifts. I remember losing the first of one of my litters of Scots and it was devastating; it tainted the excitement for the rest

Do not believe next time need a c-section, have had many many c-sections but after their first c-section next litter normal. Our vet allows three c-sections now if she bounces back in good shape.

If you can get her to take Rolaids with calcium in them, she will need all the calcium right now.

I usually start mind about a week or two before the litter is born.

This will help her, also I give my moms cheese slices and ice cream after such a big litter.

Good Luck and thinking of Moxie

oh kathryn, you must be almost exhausted as moxie!! what a great job you did taking care of her and WOW, 9 puppies!!! how many are ya gonna keep??
