We have noticed that my 10 year old sheltie "puppy" has been limping. Sometimes she would not use her favored leg at all or would very lightly be limping. She has a wound on her leg that we have been cleaning out with alcohol and triple antibiotics, but that isn't helping. We are thinking it could be a bone infection or something along those lines to be making her limp like that. My mom is calling the vet tomorrow to make an appointment to see them.

I would appreciate your thoughts, I hope it isn't something to serious.

Good thoughts for a quick healing are going out for your little girl. I hope it's not anything serious and that they can help her feel better.

Certainly will be thinking of your little dog.... Praying its not something worse than just a small infected wound. How did she get the wound?

We have no idea how she got the wound. It just appeared one day, dissapeared a week later and I think she was picking at it so it came back. We even wrapped it for a little while to keep any dirt from getting in.

I too hope it isn't anything serious. She is almost 10 years old. My first dog, our barn dog.

Good thoughts and fast healing hopes are headed your way...... please keep us posted.

I hope it turns out to be no big deal.

Will be keeping you guys in my thoughts.

Poor thing. I hope you have a Vet appointment. Let us know when you find out if she is ok.

My sheltie seemed like she was limping when I first got her but she didn't show any pain when I moved

the leg or pressed on it. I kept thinking maybe I was imagining it. Some days it looked like she was limping and some days it didn't  And you know how clumsy new puppies are

: Well, I ended up taking her in and had it x-rayed and her hip was broken. It still amazes me that she ran around and played and never complained. My other sheltie has been limping the last few days and I took him into the Vet and the Vet thinks he just pulled a muscle. Maybe this is a sheltie thing :bgrin

I hope your dog is better soon

Good going to see the vet is a good thing. Some good strong antibiotics and anti inflams will help. Let us know how it goes.

Well we made the appointment for tonight at 5:00. She isn't limping as much today but she was the same a few days ago and a while later she wouldn't be able to walk. She slept on my bed for the past three nights (Which she isn't allowed to) so she wouldn't have to be in her crate. When she took up the whole bed and I asked her to move she would have some problems getting up, She would just sit up and then lay a few inches away as before.

I'll update when we get back. Thank you!

Just got back after a two hour visit because we had to wait for 45 minutes in the room. Thankfully she gave us a discount.

They did a physical, she is overweight, hehe.

They also did a skin scrape on her abrasion and it turned out negative for demodex (mange mite).

They gave us antibiotics, arthritis meds, and a spray to keep her from licking those areas. They think it may be a bruise on the bone, may be athritis, but they aren't sure. If she isn't better in two weeks we need to go back for xrays
