Well, my friend got a new mare, who we thought was a green broke cow bred 2 year old. Well, it turns out she's a halter bred 4 year old who's been quite neglected. She was locked up in a barn with 4 other horses and 50+ sheep at the place we got her. I went along, and have gone to the barn with my friend to take care of this horse for a week now, we got her on Saturday.
She doesn't know much of anything, but she squares up automatically, moves away from pressure, and leads. She doesn't do anything else really though. She was caked in mud and who knows what else for who knows how long! We are cleaning her up though, and she needs to gain about 250 pounds. She weighs 850 now.
She is a solid sorrel breeding stock paint mare. It's sad that she is in this condition, because she was born and bred to be shown. Her bloodlines go back to Ima Cool Skip and Conclusive. Her feet are so short and flat, she will be about an inch or so taller after they are corrected. Also, she has about another inch more inch to grow too. (Her hips are higher than her withers, and we are hoping with proper feed, she will start growing again and level out.) She is 15.1 now, and she should stop at about 15.3-16.
Here are some photos, and I have permission to post this.
I have more photos, but I don't have time to upload them all. This is even after some grooming. We are going to bathe her, then clip the rest that doesn't come off when weather permits.
