I don't know what to do, my husband & I try to go every month to our animal control kennel to see all the dogs & give them cookies & to see any horses they seize, well today we were shock to find my puppy's sister ( 6 months old ) sitting in one of the pens & next to her her father, it seems 10 days ago they picked them up do to abuse & neglect to them. My pups father full Rotti is so skinny & sick looking & mean and the female is sooo skinny, every bone sticking out, has mange. My heart is breaking, she looks like my girl & personalitly soo sweet, she due to be put down in the next 2 days. My heart is saying bring her home to join our 4 other dogs, but I'm so scared I might be bringing in some sickness to my guys. I thought I take her tomorrow to our vet & let him run some test to see if they show anything and then decide, if she is sick I'll pay to have her put down and be with her or if every thing is ok with her bring her home! maybe I'll sleep on it but I think we will have a new addition to our family soon!

Thanks Peggy

That is a sad thing to see. How can you go to the shelter once a month with out coming home with full arms?

I hope it works out for you to save that girl.

Peggy please be very careful. The canine flu is going around all the southern states especially florida, Missippi and Louisiana. There is no imunity for it, dogs of all ages are getting it. They had a thing on the news today from a vet in florida who has been treating animals in a shelter from the storms. They are having to put down alot of animals because of it. It is HIGHLY contageous, more so even than parvo they said.

Yes Lyn thats what making it so hard for me, we didn't adopt a pup that came in from N.O due to the sickness. I'm hoping that she's been in there for 10 days now that some signs would of showed, oh boy my heart is hurting on this one, but thanks for the advice lyn. thanks peg

You need to follow your heart. Take her to your vet and see what he says. I bet she is fine and will be a wonderful dog for you.

Oh boy, can I relate. I go to the the local animal shelter so often they know me by first name and even call me (yes, I'm on speed dial there

) when they have certain animals come in they think I would be a good fit for. The last time I went in I took my three kids and one other. BIG mistake! I too brought home a 2nd female Rottweiler from that trip. I have a very soft spot for the breed. She is wonderful and it worked out well for our family. We did have her vet checked and took a number of days to get to know her and checked her history, making sure she was a good match and personality for our family before we actually brought her home. Good luck in your decision. I won't be any help. I am a sucker for needy animals.

I hope it works out for this dog and you! I wasn't sure I had the heart to read this thread but then reading you take cookies to the dogs at the shelter, that is such a wonderful thing to do! I could not hold up to that emotionally but I know those dogs much really appreciate the attention and love you and your husband are able to bring them!
