I thought I had the color all figured out the minute she was born, and felt confident I was correct until I read the post about RJR's foal, where my filly looks such a different color than that foal of RJR's that we all feel is smokey cream. When my girl was born, I was sure she was a smokey cream. Sire is buckskin, dam is buckskin pinto. I thought perlino was out, as no orangy colored mane/tail/points.

Now for the name. I thought I had that one figured out too, but I keep changing my mind. It is not the "barn name" I am having trouble with, as her barn name will be "Creme".(I know, spelled incorrectly, but done so purposefully) It is her registered name that I keep changing my mind about.

Here are the name choices in no particular order...which would you choose?

Last Chance Toasted Marshmallow (due to her color reminding me of that!

)

Last Chance Marshmallow Creme

Last Chance Marshmallow Supreme (Sire's name has "Supreme" as a part of it.)

Last Chance Marshmallow Sundae (Sundae/Sunday because she was born Sunday) If I ue this one, do you prefer Sundae, or Sunday?

Looking at her face, I feel that that light color is foal fur and that she'll be richer in body color later. I think she is a sort of buckskin.

I can't spell it, but what is that dessert that is cream that they toast the top of?

Creme Brule? (Brew-lay)

Call her Sunflower and send her to me in the Sunflower State, Kansas.!!

She looks buttermilk buckskin...more brown points, not black.

colors i'm only guessing but she looks to be maybe a perlino

i'm not sure of the range of colors they can be

our perlino had dark points but not as dark more orangy as you said

Too cute no matter what color. Big help, aren't I!

Out of those four names I would call her..........Last Chance Marshmallow Supreme.

Creme Brulee, Robin. And it's one of my favorites. That is sugar on the top. I put mine in the broiler but some actually use a hand held kitchen torch to "burn" the sugar. YUM!

Mona,

Does she have blue eyes. I mean really blue? To me she looks like a buckskin, Perhaps a silver buckskin or a creamy buckskin. Her mane and tail are too dark for her to be a double dilute.

How about Creme De Coco

Thanks for the replies thus far. She is definately not buckskin...she is a double dilute for sure. She has the pink skin and bright blue eyes. I think REO is correct in the foal coat being lighter. Even though she was just born, she has areas on her face that looks like she has already shed out there, and they are a little darker in color.

As for the names, it has to be one of the ones I listed here....sorry.

What color are her eyes? At first I thought a buttermilk buckskin. But her skin is very pink around her eyes and nose. Which might lead me to think a perlino. Either way she is beautiful and would fit in wonderfully here at Creta Hills Farm.

I like the name Last Chance Marshmallow Ice Creme

But I have never been good at picking out names.

I like Last Chance Marshmallow Creme (but I also like REO's suggestion of Creme Brulee) It could be Last Chance Marshmallow Creme Brulee.

Beautiful filly no matter what you name her!

Mona,

You will have to have her tested and let us all know what color she is. The mane and tail are so dark, I am surprised that she is a double dilute. The perlinos have a reddish mane and tail (sometimes), so I guess she would have to be a smokey black.

I definitely agree with the dark perlino! She is gorgeous

! I also thought maybe champaign but most likely not with bright blue eyes.

When was she born? I know some foals are born with the pink around the eyes and nose but it darkens up after a week.

She was just born 2:00am yesterday(Sunday) morning. I know what you mean about some foals being born with pink skin and turning dark as they get a few days on them...I have had MANY over the years, and in fact, the red dun colt born just 3 hours earlier than this filly was one that was born just like that. This filly is WITHOUT A DOUBT a double dilute of some color. THAT, I am sure of!

My favorite out of the four you are thinking of is Last Chance Marshmallow Supreme

Congratulations on your new filly!!!

I also like Marshmallow Supreme as her name.

I was mixed wanting to see this baby (you'd told me earlier about her) and not wanting to see this baby as I knew I'd love her!!! And I cannot keep all mine AND shop................... I always love your foals and this one is a color I sure appreciate!!!

She is perlino -- I am pretty sure. You can have different shades to their points with them, just as you can have different shades of points in buckskins. For sure double dilute, but my hunch is perlino... my favorite shade of pink!!!

The smokey creams I have seen have had a uniform color to their body and points. Cremello's have no points. This is why I think she must be perlino.

Here's a picture of my now 2yo Buckeroo granddaughter, Bomb Shell (by Erica's Big City), when she was a couple days old. You know with perlinos, their "points" usually fade fast but you can see them when they are young. Bomb Shelly's also out of two buckskins. Her points are not as dark as your girl's, but they also are not at all orange. Just in case this helps!
