They can, but you have to be extremely careful with the dosage. [Their weight is often over-estimated, so they are over-dosed.]
I have a mare that foundered, and nothing but Bute would touch her pain. [she got ulcer meds along with the bute and she seemed to handle it very well.]
Exactly. I don't use bute for the minis if I have a choice, but I've had to use it on a couple of foundered mares in the past, and now on Artie. If it's a prolonged dosage - more than a day or so - I give an ulcer med with it. She was on Gastroguard for about 6 weeks (ouch), and is now on U7 twice a day. It's been about 3 months since her surgery, she's had bute most of that time and so far so good.

Any change in your mare tonight, or any word from your vet? Sure sounds like the beet pulp was suspicious!

Thanks you all.

The strep test and all the tests came back negative. I think laminitis too.

There is no hot feet, no elevated pulse...

She does stay on her feet and is brite and wants her food. She is still sore

and walking very slow. Her back legs seem worse now. ?????

*sigh* I am soaking her hay.

I let her out in my isleway last night, while I picked her stall. She walked around on her own,

checked out every corner for her feed...

Sandy - how is your filly doing? Did anything ever come of all the tests? Hoping she is feeling a lot better now.

Hi Stacy

Well,, according to the tests... Little Anna is healthy as a horse! LOL Neg on every test.

We don't know what is wrong but she is improving, slowly.

She could have hurt her back or got out-of-wack.. but I really think laminitis.

She seems more comfortable. She's such a sweet little mare.

We had a mini that hurt his back once and we thought it was laminitis at first. Our vet started treating him for it but I had the farrier out and he said that he hurt his back. Poor little guy walked really strange but didn't have the laminitic stance at all. No heat in his feet or anything but did get relief from banamine. Poor little guy. We lost him on thanksgiving 2007. sure miss him. I hope your girl will get better real soon. Has she seen the farrier recently? He/she might have an idea.

Hi,

Thanks. Yep. the farrier was actually here the day I first noticed her 'off'

He did not think laminitis.

I plan to see about a Chiropractor tomorrow.. but, she is improving.. I'm so relieved.

I know it has been cold but what about one of the tick born diseases? the ouchiness and off and on feeling ok sure sounds like them. ( and they can flare up months even years later)
