I agree with you Amy. The thing is that I loved the first Zorro, but this one was a dud for me for the same reason that you state Amy. When she divorced Zorro, I was so angry that I just about walked out of the theater. The first thing that ran through my mind was that "you married a hero like him, and he was good enough for you before you got married, and now you want to change who he was before he met you???" This whole scenario just sat really really wrong with me and it ruined my whole frame of mind for the rest of the movie.
Now on the other hand, if the producers wanted to use this story line, then let the viewers know right up front why Zorro was being so wronged. At least I may have been able to get past my anger at the movie industry always making it ok in any movie for people to just up and leave their spouse. I was angry because this movie was rated as a family type of movie, and well honestly our younger children would most likely not pick up on the reasons why it was ok for her to leave him, especially after having to watch it for so long.
I almost felt like the blackmail part was just thrown in at a whim haphazardly.
(What ever happened to commitment and taking vows seriously? This kind of subject matter really shouldn't be used so lightly IMO.)
Off my soap box now...
