Hello,

I have a couple of AMHA registered geldings. They are cute little guys, but not halter quality. I would like to show them somewhere. Could someone offer other possibilities?

Tons of possibilities!!!!!!!!!!!

Hunter, jumping, driving, showmanship, just to name a few.

Find out what they like to do, and what they do best.

And go have fun!!!!!!!! :bgrin

What are they good at? What do they like to do?

I suggest you GO to a show and watch the whole long, boring thing and see if anything looks like fun, that you could do with a little work. Except for the color classes generally, most classes take some amount of skill and work to go and show with some success.

Why not enter halter anyway? Even if you don't win, you'll have fun

Who knows, the judge may want to see that style

There are a lot of classes other than halter. I suggest going to a show and watching it to get an idea of what to do in each class and what looks like something that you would want to do.

Just a warning; Showmanship isn't as easy as it looks...

Thanks for the replies!!

Could someone tell me a little about showmanship and isn't there an obstacle class?

And by the way one of my little guys(soon to be a gelding) is a sorrell pinto.

The obstacle class is just that you lead (or drive) them around and thru poles on the ground or turn inside a hoola hoop or walk over a bridge. You should look on line at one of AMHA(or R) site at the rule book. It pretty much lists the obstacles.

If you've never done any showing, you may need help getting the showmanship class. It's judged quite a bit on you - how you show off your horse. But there are so many things to learn like keeping in the correct 1/4 of the horse with the judge, that you may need some help on it. Find someone who's in 4-H; they usually have showmanship down pretty well even if it's a "big" horse owner the rules are the same.

You should check out the "Training Tips" part of my website for a basic overview. I can also help one on one with personal training matters.
