No water in barn during the winter.

I do not have water in the barn--and same as you, the hose gets turned off as soon as freezing temps arrive. I have 5 horses and haul water from the tub. I don't have heated water buckets, so I haul a LOT of water. It starts at 5:30 AM from the tub to the back pastures, again at 4:00 and again at 9 PM to top off stall buckets. I use what you mentioned... those 6 gal containers. I fill them about 5-5.5 gal full and take two at a time. (wanna arm wrestle?) I haven't gotten cleats, but have done a bit of boot skating... and it's very entertaining to watch me slide along with a water container on icy days.

Warm water in the barn? I'd gain weight and my muscles would shrivel.
