love my kindle fire, price reduced on original one now even cheaper than I got mine. Still have a bit of trouble getting used to typing on the touch screen, but that is my problem, not the kindle. The HD version is the same price as my fire from last Christmas $200. . They are coming out with a new fire that you can use anywhere like an ipad. Lots of free stuff and movies and I rarely use my laptop anymore. it is nice to prop up and watch a movie while you are cooking. It is awesome, love it, very reasonable priced toy. don't buy the cover they sell expecially made for the fire... I got a knock off zip up cloth padded cover very cheap at wally mart, the leather ones are over priced. Pay for Amazon prime, $79 I think, well worth it in freebies and free shipping etc. You can get free upgrades for the software from Amazon. If you have problems contact Amazon right away. Very helpful phone help. The trick with the fire is the lighter touch you use the better it responds. It is quick. Nice size, fits right in your handbag. The newest high dollar Kindle fire has 4G and a $50 flat fee for internet anywhere use. That price is just for the first year, not sure what the monthly charges would be for that later. If you are looking for basic easy wi fi internet then the basic kindle fire is awesome. I have fios for my wi fi. take care and have fun shopping.

I was going to get a laptop or netbook so figured I'd just keep what I got him for myself...not sure I like it but will give it a chance.

Looking at a 24" screen all day then looking at one about 9" is a BIG difference and it is very sensitive and hard for me to type on. It is very nice and since I do dearly LOVE my Kindle reader I got last Christmas I'll try it a couple weeks, if I can't get use to it I'll give it to my Mom to listen to books on.

I have the most basic kindle you can get and I love it. I have a computer and a droid phone so I don't need fancy apps. It works perfectly for what I need, feels like i'm reading from a real book, and even though I have dropped it multiple times on cement it has only obtained little scratches. I highly recommend it.

I have a Nook color, but my iPad rules. I can read kindle and nook as well as other formats, and haven't touched my laptop in months.
