Immigration
Obama voted for the failed 2007 Immigration Act along with McCain.

Obama voted against a bill that would prohibit undocumented immigrants convicted of aggravated felonies, domestic violence, stalking, violation of protection orders, crimes against children, or crimes relating to the illegal purchase or sale of firearms, from gaining legal status. McCain also voted against it.

Obama sponsored a bill which would have increased the level of family sponsored immigrants from 226,000 to 567,000. McCain voted no.

Obama cosponsored to pass an amendment that reduces the annual limit on guest workers to two hundred thousand from a ceiling of six hundred thousand proposed.

He along with McCain voted for triple layered fencing at the boarder but against double layered fencing.

Constitution

He voted against the flag desecration amendment along with Hillary Clinton while John McCain voted yes. Expect McCain or the 527 groups to jump all over Obama on this issue.

Even though he was at Congress, he did not vote on the moveon.org resolution that criticized the group for bashing General Petraeus. Hillary voted no while McCain voted yes.

He voted against giving himself a pay raise. Only six senators had the balls to vote for the pay raise. I can understand the Hawaii senator wanting a pay raise, it probably costs a crapload for him to fly.

He voted for an amendment that opposes criticism of our military. Apparently the first amendment does not apply to the military? Even John McCain voted against this bill.

He voted to grant habeas corpus to persons being detained by the US. Apparently John McCain does not recognize the bill of rights as he voted against it.

He along with McCain rejected the same sex marriage amendment.

Katrina

Obama voted to allow for a vote on an amendment to increase the federal governments financial aid package to the victims of Hurricane Katrina by providing food assistance, bankruptcy relief and tax help. McCain voted no.

Obama voted for a congressional commission to study what went wrong with Katrina. McCain voted no.

Iraq

Obama voted for a congressional committee to study how contracts were to be handed out in Iraq and Afghanistan. McCain voted no.

Obama did not vote on the future military funding for Iraq amendment which would have adopted a non-binding, amendment that expresses the Senate's will that future military operation funds be included in the regular budget proposal and not in an emergency supplemental appropriation bill.

In November of 07, he voted to give an extra 50 billion to fund operations in Iraq along with McCain.

Appointments

Obama voted against Alito and Roberts. McCain voted yes.

Obama voted against Gonzo and for Condi. McCain supported both.

Economics

Obama voted against the bankruptcy reform bill in 05. Hillary Clinton was the only one that didn't vote.

Obama cosponsored a bill to limit farm subsidies for married couples to 250,000 along with John McCain.

Obama did not vote on the economic stimulus package. McCain voted yes.

Obama voted against the sunset of the estate tax. McCain is now for it.

Obama and McCain voted against increasing the debt limit of 8.97 trillion

Obama voted to extend pay as you go until 2011 along with McCain.

Obama voted for a temporary crude oil profits tax. McCain voted against it.

Ethics

Obama voted for the ethics bill McCain voted against it.

Environment

Obama voted against ANWR. McCain also voted no.

Obama voted for carbon and mercury limits. McCain also voted for the limits.

Education

Obama voted to increase Pell Grants. McCain voted no.

Veterans

Obama voted to provide 500 million to help vets deal with PTSD and substance abuse. McCain voted no.

Trade

Obama voted against CAFTA but voted for free trade with Oman. McCain voted yes on both.

Stem Cells

Obama along with McCain voted yes to embryonic stem cell research.

My Conclusion

I guess you should be very very scared of both candidates since they seem quite similar in their thinking.

Now before I am labeled trying to make people vote one way or the other ..... vote for whoever you want BUT please be informed and don't say things about either candidate that are not factual or proven or true, that is all I am saying whether it's McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden. Just make "informed" decisions and be opened minded enough to look at both sides on current issues and policies and make your personal choice. If you feel McCain is who will do this best in your mind then VOTE FOR MCCAIN/PALIN

if you prefer OBAMA/BIDEN VOTE FOR THEM

Ill take it you actually checked all these voting records out? Right??

Do I question? Of course I do. Believe it or not I have done a bit of research on the guy. I've seen his voting record (http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=9490). I'm aware of the work he's done in the past, starting from 1983 when he got his B.A. from Columbia and started working for a publishing firm.

Do I believe he has enough experience? Yes. He's proven himself to be an educated and competent politician.

Now, what 'actions' of his are giving you these bad gut feelings?

I checked about half of them to ensure that the poster who made this list (I am sure there are more and you could do a search as well) is accurate and not pulling this stuff out of hat. I did not do the entire list, I stopped at "Katrina" I found up to that point to be accurate. As I said just make informed and factual decisions. I know that is what I am doing with our election, probably more so this time than any other time I have voted because of the times we are living these days. I went and looked at all the platforms of all of the parties, okay I didn't look at the Partie Quebecois, because in my personal opinion they should even be there as they only run in their own province

. But I truly made the effort this year to look at all the parties, not just the Conservatives and the Liberals, but the NDP and the Green Party. I found out I really like the Green Party and I think that Ms. May is very intelligent, very well spoken and have a somewhat similar platform this time around than the Liberals but I guess it's the fear of the unknown that will keep me from voiting Green.

Maybe the fact he votes "present" so very many many times. You can't tell where he stands.

I just honestly wish they would bring up more topics such as gun control, abortion, etc. Would like to hear more on other topics.
Perhaps this will help. I have not looked at either so I have no idea what is listed but seems at a glance quite a bit that might have something about their stand on guns and abortion.

I have, way back when, put on a web site that told how everyone voted. That is how I know That O had voted so many times "present". I really would like to hear a debate rather than reading about it. That way they can respond to each other.

The sites I just linked to for the candidates (McCain and Palin and Obama and Biden) are no nonsense and I read some of both and saw things I didn't like for both candidates. I think they are being very fair and reporting things I didn't know on either of the candidates. I am going to go look and see if they have these sites for our politicians running for Prime Minister.

How do you know where McCain stands?

There have been 68 bills voted on in 2007 and 2008, just in the Budget,

Spending and Taxes category, and McCain voted present 56 times.

Obama - 50 times.

Oh no McCain voted present more times than Obama... How can that be????

And THIS is something that scares me,,, after he is telling the vets how much he love them. ... dispicable.

Obama voted to provide 500 million to help vets deal with PTSD and substance abuse. McCain voted no.

Wellll...just because I can I actually counted the NV..Not sure where your number comes from..But its waaaaayyyy off..

Obama did not vote on the economic stimulus package. McCain voted yes.
WHAT!!! One of THE most important issues OF OUR TIME and he decides to PASS!!!! Does the think the decisions will get easier when he gets into the White House?

Really people there are lots of bills, due to shear volume, that politicians might not know about so vote present but this IS NOT what you look for in a leader.

Well, I guess they are even on that one because McCain didn't vote on it the first time it came up for a vote.

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois flew to Washington for the vote. Clinton and Obama voted yes on the measure; GOP front-runner John McCain did not vote, reports CBS Radio News' John Hartge.

Well hon..of cause I went into the actual voting records on the congress website..darn..should just have pulled of CBS??

Please do not call me hon I find it very demeaning.

Well then I'm sure you can give me a link showing that the CBS article is wrong.

I deleted this from a much earlier thread, but since Neil opened the door...

The Republican convention itself reminded me of a Hitler gathering or worse. All we needed were the jackbooted thugs -- but I guess Carl Rove was backstage.

Speaking of Votes. I saw somewhere that McCain has missed more this term than Obama and Biden combined. I dont know where you all are looking up facts, so can someone see if that is correct or not?
