I deleted this from a much earlier thread, but since Neil opened the door...
The Republican convention itself reminded me of a Hitler gathering or worse. All we needed were the jackbooted thugs -- but I guess Carl Rove was backstage.
Whooo Nellie... I never said anything about Hitler. Possibly because I am old enough to have been alive to remember Hitler and his brownshirt thugs.

I apologize for getting the door and the opener wrong -- although, in my defense, I was speaking about a more general door (stretching the metaphor just a bit...)

You mentioned Jim Jones, Jill mentioned Hitler. The Republican Convention reminded me of both of these, as well as some of the infamous skinhead rallies, with an "us vs. them" theme that was frightening.

True, and watching the republicans on the news at their rallies lately. DOES look pretty scary. Hate hate hate and fear.

I don't know what you are watching..I call it compassion for the country!! People are plain tired to get screwed by the government.

My anger reference is primarily directed at the debates. As John McCain spoke very calmly, you can see NObama in the background with steam coming out of his ears. Figurativly speaking of course but, the looks he gave to McCain and how many times he tried to cut him off when he did not like or agree with what was being said, these are the anger issues I see. Imagine if he tried to do that with foreign dignitaries. Trying to sign a peace treaty or some other monumentally important item, and there he is cutting off the Prime Minister or Queen. I do not feel he presents himself professionally well at all. Not in this manner. He allows his emotions to take over where anyone and everyone can see them and that is not something the leader of the free world should be doing. You cannot be in negotiations for freedom, about war, shoot, about anything of any kind of importance really, and not have a poker face. In my opinion, NObama does not pull this off. This item alone puts our country at risk. If he cannot control his emotions and anger, how can he stand up and guide this country. How can he go before foreign leaders and do the things necessary to protect this country? I just don't see it.

I totally agree with you..the disrespectful grin..wanted to slap him..LOL

Obama did not vote on the economic stimulus package. McCain voted yes.
WHAT!!! One of THE most important issues OF OUR TIME and he decides to PASS!!!! Does the think the decisions will get easier when he gets into the White House?

Really people there are lots of bills, due to shear volume, that politicians might not know about so vote present but this IS NOT what you look for in a leader.

Well, I guess they are even on that one because McCain didn't vote on it the first time it came up for a vote.

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois flew to Washington for the vote. Clinton and Obama voted yes on the measure; GOP front-runner John McCain did not vote, reports CBS Radio News' John Hartge.

The first measure died in the House of Representatives not the Senate so I would have been very shocked to see that he HAD voted for it.

The issue your quoting from is the Feb 08 issue of our economic "stimulus" joke, excuse me Check, that we got.

I went and found the page you got it from and here is the link, if you want to double check the date at the top of the page or read the article.

The news headline is:

"Hallelujah! Senate Republicans block Dem attempt to lard up stimulus package"

and yes both Obama and Hillary voted yes.

I was surprised to hear Obama didn't vote for the bailout because he "blasted" Congress the first time it didn't pass. Gosh oh Golly isn't that interesting.

Sorry, my mistake. But the point is he was not there to vote!

“I haven’t had a chance to talk about it at all, have not had the opportunity to, even,” McCain said. “We’ve just been too busy, focused on other stuff. I don’t know if I’m doing that. We’ve got a couple of meetings scheduled.”

Voting "no" with Republican leaders would have offended millions of Social Security recipients and the disabled veterans not scheduled to receive rebates. Voting "yes," on the other hand, risked alienating Bush, GOP leaders and conservatives already suspicious of McCain's political leanings. McCain was speaking Thursday before a meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, a group that booed him last year in absentia.

For McCain, not voting meant not going on the record either way. He has missed all eight Senate roll call votes this year.

You'll love this, found it by accident. For the fun of it (shockingly I find politics really exciting) I was going through a website that had all missed votes by both parties and what they were. I got to say some of them are really paint drying stuff, I would warrant anyone would call them non-critical.

Anyways, I flipped back to the year 2007, being polite as both are campaigning hard this year, understandable and look what I find for Obama:

12/6/07 Vote 415: H R 3996: H.R. 3996 as Amended; Temporary Tax Relief Act of 2007 Not Voting
This is the above mentioned program!! AFTER the bill was stopped and $44 BILLION was trimmed off the stimulus package he then voted....well he didn't, even though Both the GOP and Dem position was YES on this subject.

Sorry, I did say I was leaving but I stumbled across that on my "way out" and just had to share.

The folks at the Republican gatherings are just stating what all of us are feeling. We don't want to be turned into a Socialist Country. That's exactly what will happen if NObama gets elected. Those that are for him just can't bring themselves to admit it.

They've mentioned they are tired of War Mongers being in charge. The way this World is going, I'd much rather have a WarMonger in charge than a spineless wimp that will let all the Evil out there walk all over our country.

Talk about childish..........the dems went through our village today and took all the McCain/Palin signs down. There were more of them than NObama signs so they had to do something. They must have been in a hurry as they left some of the frames still standing.

Yeah.....very grown up behaviour.
