We have a new cat, well we have had her over a month now, I've been having to shoo her away on occassion from the counter where the fish is, Should have been a hint right!!! Oh well, THANKFULLY I was home, as she knocked it over, and I heard it, went running as water is gushing all over, (of course I hate to keep a beta in a small little bowl, so we have like a HUGE fat Vase we keep him in and it is really neat.) Found him laying on the carpet, got there just in time to swoop him up and save his life, he has been with us for 2 years!

(My daughter's fish and thankfully she is in bed) so now we moved it. Trying to clean up the water on the carpet now!

Hope she doesn't try it again, I put him up on the kitchen counter, so far I have never seen her up there, but she is going to be in BIG trouble if she tries it again.

Wow... close call

I'vew been lucky, and never had a betta that was a jumper OR a cat that wanted to knock over the tank (my bettas have always live in 1gal tanks... or bigger)

"My" cat that lives with my mother (long story, lol) loves to watch her bettas in their vases... and will tap the glass to get them moving

I've heard of betta breeders loosing their bettas to sink drains, etc when cleaning jars/tanks/etc because of the bettas jumping. My cure... I saved back a plastic peanut butter jar, and whenever I do a full tank cleaning, I put him in that along with some of his tank water. Saves his fins (nets+long fins can cause tears), and saves him alot of stress... and saves me being afraid he'll jump.

Keep an eye on the poor betta- he may get sick from the stress.

Glad you got the little guy in time! We just had our betta die, we had him for 7 years! He has "changed homes" so many times. In his younger days I tryed to get the darn thing to breed a girl betta (I was 10 and the baby bettas would be the coolest thing) Then he lived in my fish tank with a bunch of other fish, then about a year later I got rid of my fish tank but had to keep ol Blue and he went to live in a big vase with a plant. And towards his last two years here he has had a bloodfin that my friend gave me, live with him. I told her I didnt need another fish and that it wouldnt live with out air but the darn little thing is living still, Blue tought him to gulp air I guess.

Our cats used to get on the counter and thats a big no no for them, 1 reason being the fish is up there and 2nd reason my dad is discusted with cats on the counter so he stuck mouse traps all over up there. Each cat had to go stick there nose on it and got snapped on the nose, then they never went up there again.
