I was always told that a foal looks at 3 months like it will look as an adult, if that is the case, she sure is gonna be a cutie!!! Unfortunately I am not that well versed in telling if they are dwarf, she certainly doenst look like the little "muscle man" look of the one dwarf I saw in real life!

No, she is not a dwarf. She is classic for a certain "type" of mini and she is adorable. I would have fun and show her. And your "friend" who labelled her a dwarf probably is hoping you won't show her as she just may win in the tiny weanling class! LOL!

To be absolutely honest? She is not what WE breed for (anymore) but a few years ago we were and if she popped out of one of our mares back then, we would have been tickled!

I have to agree with Tony!

She is adorable and I'd love to have one that looked that super at only 20.75" tall!! WOW!

She does not look like a dwarf to me.

I forgot to say that we don't ever plan to breed her as she is too tiny for me to feel comfortable breeding. She is going to be our pet. She would rather be with us than her dam......lol.

I dont know much about dwarves but I say the same as the others about her legs.I realy like her head though

: and she is very pretty along the neck.

When I first seen the pic I was drawn to her head. Right away I thought "something dont look right" about it but I dont know much about dawarfs.

I do know with the "weiner dog" dwarfs you dont reconize them right away and it isnt until they are older do you notice they are not growing in any direction but long and around.

Tami, I just see a tiny one...I don`t see anything that makes me think dwarf at all...and since she is so young, she might take off and be totally different in a year.

In fact, would love to see her again...

Hi Tami! :saludando:

She's SOO adorable! The 2nd picture was MUCH help in overall picture... I think she looks very normal and from looking and studing many other photos of such small baby mini's they are going to have more substance of bone. I deffinately wouldn't say that she's a dwarf. I think she's (to me) looks like a very normal baby mini foal for her size.

I think she is worth showing. I don't she is a dwarf.

THANK YOU!!! My Barakah!!!

Please Tami, don't take all the posts about dwarfism to heart. I am going to be flamed for this.......but I already tried to PM you and it was wiped out in a Lightning storm going on here.....so I'm taking it as a sign that I'm to post PUBLICLY. (Yikes!)

Your second photo was very helpful in evaluating her, even though you feel it wasn't as good.

I still say your mini filly is a TYPE. She will probably mature out as a short, stouter boned mini. Your filly is NOT the "weaner dog" style dwarf. She has a dished faced (adorable) with a nice neck, straight legs, and you've said she has a good bite.......AHEM.

NOT A DWARF.

I reccomend that you listen to Tony Greaves on this one. He has been breeding the teenies for over 30 years. (I personally do not breed the iddy-biddies, BUT.....) Tony has been doing this for so many years, showing and WINNING, I suspect he knows just a LITTLE bit on the subject.

This Forum is very concerned on the subject of dwarfism (and rightly so) however, in regard to your little one, I suspect some posters are responding with a bit of Paranoiasm on the subject. (Whooo.. hoo....I'm feeling the flames already! )

So, YES. Please show your little girl. Hopefully you are in a region that has the height divisions for weanlings where it would even be better! And let us know how she does!!!!

MA

As another long time breeder of tinies I second all that.

You may also be surprised at her adult height.

The smallest born foal I have ever had has been 14 1/2 " and that was SO small I did not name him for ten days!!

He was 21" (our measuring) at eight months.

He ended up at 30" (just!!)- I find that, contrary to opinion on here, the tiny ones actually grow far longer than the "normal" sized foals (which for me is around 16-17") and also creep on longer. The bigger foals, in my lines anyway, are done growing by yearlings and just creep a bit till two then that is it.

The tinies creep until maybe three.

Mia, my tiniest mare, was not a small foal, particularly.

She was a TINY yearling and was 25" when I was showing her.

Now, at six years old she is 271/2" if you stretch her (and 28" wide!!!

Those are all "to the wither" measurements, I have NO idea what they would be measuring your way.

I'm going to chime in and say the new pictures helped a lot, also.

I guess Margo pretty much said what I would say.

Sorry if I upset you, it's SO hard to tell from photos and I think time will tell you more of what you need to know on this little girl. I have been where you are w/more than one foal and it came out fine most of the time.

I am shocked at her height, but wow, if she maintains her nice shape, she should be very competitive in that height class.

Again kudos to you for caring and being vigilant to this.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the help. To me she just looks like a little horse. But most of my foals are 19 to 21 when born so I just wanted a bit of knowledge on the really little ones. I appreciate every post!!

Thanks again. :saludando:

I agree with Liz. The second photo helped me see differently also. And as I stated I know nothing about dwarfs. But this is what it is all about, learning

My very first mini born was 18 in (I know now that is not tiny). I thought for sure she was a dwarf. I was new into the minis and just thought small was an indication. I believe she is now around 31 inches, perfect bite and did quite well showing.

In my opinion - I don't understand why anybody would even consider this filly being anything like a dwarf. She is a lovely filly and will do well in the show ring as a youngster. She may be a little mature for her age and end up a little heavier as an adult - but dwarfism - what are people thinking!!!!!!

We should all be concerned about dwarfism - but having a dishy head does not automatically mean she is a dwarf. She is very well proptioned - lovely long neck - take her in the ring as a weanling and kick the butts of the people who are telling you she is a dwarf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tami, To me she doesnt look dwarfy at all, she just looks more like the "old style" foals people use to breed for. I would definitely show her and see what happens. She is a little cutie. I have had some really tiny foals born too, (16") and they do eventually reach a mature height of 28-30". Corinne

Tami, she isn't a dwarf. We see this so often. those who aren't used to the smallest of miniature horses, especially foals, simply don't know how to evaluate them. When we first saw Cowboy we were told he 'wasn't worth anything' because he was too little. And that he could never be a show horse........well, excuuuuuuse me! National Top Ten in two registries! EVERY foal of his that has been shown has anywhere from Nat/World Res Chs to Top Tens.....and that's from a VERY limited number of foals....we only breed for a few foals each year.

So, your little girl is GORGEOUS! Take that little doll out there and KNOCK 'EM DEAD!

Charlotte

I see a cute little horse and not a dwarf in either of the pictures. I say go ahead and show her and love her to pieces. I have a 27 1/4" mature mare that was that small at that age also and there is nothing dwarfy about her at all. She has shown in New England shows and done well.

l think she's a sweetheart and can't understand why anyone would think they see dwarf...l would think she's just the heavier set type that happens to be short but can't say she comes across as having any dwarf features...

:bgrin I think your filly is really pretty. She just looks small to me. Have fun at the shows!
