Thanks again everyone. Spencer has done his first night and on first feed this morning he took only 50 mls but half an hour later he was trying to suck my chin so offered his bottle again and he has taken the most of 150 mls. He has access at all times to hay, grass, foal meal and water. He has started to play with a ball and run after my son around the garden. He is still wanting mum but can be distracted for short times with games of catch me.

Looking brighter today but it is surprising how quickly the shine dropped off his coat, hopefully we can get it restored to his former glory soon.

Thanks again, Mandy :saludando:

:aktion033: What my grand dad did to feed foals was to get a fresh milk goat and train heer to stand on a hay bale and let the foal nurse right from her. Worked every time.

GOOD LUCK TO LITTLE SPENCER!!!!!!!! and you too mandy........!!!hope it all works out well for you.

Do you have any non pregnant mares that have been good moms in the past? Ask your vet about giving a mare Domperiidone I think it is 3cc orally am and pm. It may take about 4 days for milk to come in. It worked great when I had an orphan . The mare accepted the 3 day old colt and it all worked out well.

You need to keep giving the Domperidone for a couple weeks to keep the milk coming, and then no more.

I am very sorry about your mare.
