I just got the AMHR registration papers today on a stallion I just registered. They registered him as a palomino pinto when I put silver buckskin pinto (which he is) on the registration application. Why do they not put what the owner says the horse is? So, I feel your pain!
I have always found both registries easy to work with, but I would NOT accept a Buckskin being registered as a Palomino. If you KNOW him to be Buckskin (which I'm sure you do), I would send it back and insist that he be registered correctly.

well..since we have brought up the mare..I hate to throw a gog in the wheel..but she is not a bay..I got a baby book with her when I bought her(now how cute is that) and her foal pictures show her as a dove grey color(like a grulla ) which I am now thinking she must be a silver dapple(?) varnish appaloosa...it shows a progression of solid dove grey-dapples-white with black/dark points....or.....is she a true grey?

Do you have any more pictures of her dam? I still say bay varnish appaloosa from the picture you posted. True greys have NO color at all-if she were a true grey she would not have the black points. She is also not silver because her mane and tail are black in the picture you have posted(may be grey now if she is appy? Many of my appys have their manes and tails turn grey when they get their appy coloring). Foals are often a 'softer' or muddled color of their true color. It's a defense mechanism-they are young and weak and want to blend into their environments better so predators can't see them.

Here are some pictures of 2 varnish appaloosas that I have:

This stallion was born solid black, then when he started to varnish he looked almost grullo. This was him at about 8 years old

This mare was born solid chestnut and then started to varnish out when she was about 3. This is her last year at 12 years old

They are not grey which is apparent due to the darker points. Hope this helps!

I would lay money she is not Grey!

She could be Grulla base, but not from that picture....can you post the baby pics??

you can rule out silver so the only other choices you'd have are bay or black, but from the pic you posted I say bay (she is heterozygous agouti since dam does not have it and possibly homozygous for black)
