Well I am not much further ahead...lol I was not sure of the spelling as like you said they both sort of mean the same thing... But I sure do appreciate all the look ups that have been done...I have not lost any sleep over this...but is a question...I have pondered about for quite awhile...That's right.
Peep- look furtively, or through a narrow aperture.
Also to peer through as in, Flowers peeping through the Spring soil.
I do think the Peeping Tom origin is probably true.
Also "peek" means the same thing but it also means the top of the mountain, it's just spelt differently!!!- and we think German is a difficult language!!!!
