Ok, so we brought the mini to school today, cool! well... I am walking up from the barn to the school, with my ag teacher, and i told her that we are puting jason down, and she said, 'Well that's good" and i was like '--- Yea it's his time" and she was like "yea when i saw him 3 years ago i thought he should be put down' i was lik whoa!!! i just noded my head and ignorded it and went back to my graphic disgin class... well... then it really hit me and made me mad, i was like what she has no right to say that! like sure i know jason was skinny, and those 3 years we tried to get him to gein weight, but he didn, that is when i decided it was time... well any way...i was like ehhhhh... and just needed to vent. so i txted my mom and told her...she was like "not' listen to her. This is the one who gave her cow a blood transfusion'...(next text message) 'i guess she dosn't have a fuzzy side'... and it made me laugh...so i was better,....

anny who 4 periods later, i'm walking to the lib, and i was talking with crista...my freind...who is in Vet Sci, she was telling me how they were twiching the new horse, becuse he wouldn't stand still to get his feet picked up...i was like what were they doing with the horse, well i guess they were giving him a n 'evaluation' like can't you wait till he settles in? it's a little early. Well i gues the got him all riled up and he was going nutz in his stall... Ehhh... I'm gonig to be blut and ignorant... i HATE cow people...

First off, you will be in my thoughts as you go through this time with Jason. (((hugs))) and know you are doing what is right for the him.

Ahhh yes, Ag class. I remember being in them... Brings back mostly fond memories...

I will say that I bet your teacher was trying to be nice. Most often strangers can see when it is "time" easier than we can as they are removed from the situation. It is a tough thing to talk about, even with teachers. Remember, sometimes they don't know what to say in these situations. My gut feeling is that this instructor was agreeing with you and basically saying not to feel bad that you gave Jason more of a chance than many others would.

As far as twitching, it is a common and a fairly humane practice. There are recepters in the nose, and horses that respond to twitches do so well as it actually causes the horse to go into a relaxing mode. It will make many horses dozy without drugs. Yes, there are some that don't do well with a twitch, but those that it works on, it is a miracle. It is like putting pressure on certain parts of your body to relieve headaches. It does work.

Also, remember that horses need to learn to cope with strange situations. So do the people that have to work on strange horses. These people have to learn how to get a horse examined even when the horse is scared and acting up. That is a HUGE part of veterinary sciences. So I don't view what was happening as necessarily bad as both the horse and the humans can learn from this experience. Remember, in an emergency, the horses and humans won't have time to let things settle down. They will have to act immediately. So better that both should learn before there is an emergency.

Also, remember that seeing what is happening with your own eyes is much different than hearing it from someone. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt about what was happing as I am betting that it wasn't as bad as it sounds.

True, i understand. But i think that doing all this stuff is a little early. I think he should be allowed to adjust to his new surroundings first. Then do all this stuff...

I never knew abou the twitching...that is veary interesting.
