Prayers and good luck to both you and Prints. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. As for the alligator, I'd have done the same thing.

Carolyn, Prints has proven over and over again what a fighter she is. I am sending all my healing energy your way, that poor little girl sure does NEED IT. If there is any left, make sure to take some for yourself, girl, you have been through the wringer with this little one.

Carolyn, I'm adding my prayers to others for your darlin' lil Prints. I'll be off-line for several days; and sure hope to see good news when I return.

Oh No! Poor little Prints. We'll add her to our prayer list. Poor baby. Give her a hug from her forum friends and tell her we are all pulling for her.

I thought I would give an update, but not really any change. We have gotten a second opinion, and he says joint ill. It has spread quite a bit. It is causing the congestion, rattle in her chest. We have added another medication to help with that, hopefully give her some relief. I asked about her going to a clinic or hospital. Have been told, that kind of stress could excellerate her problems and would be best for her to be home. They wouldn't do any more there, than the medication I am doing for her.

Both front knees are still swollen. Her temp has stayed between 103.5 and 104 all day, going back up to 104 this evening. The congestion in her chest is making it difficult for her to eat, so we have made her a mash type meal and she is eating that. Soaked hay cubes, beet pulp, and 16% grain also soaked. With a touch of syrup. She is so good at taking her medicines. I am amazed at how warm her little body feels and she stands and lets me put a cold towel around her neck. I think it has become a good comfort for her.

We let her out of the stall, wanted her to move some. But she just walked back inside her stall and leaned against the wall in the corner. Opie being the good little buddy that he is went in after her and tried to get her out to play, but he finally gave up and went out on his own. I sat with her for about an hour and then finished my cleaning.

I will let you know of any changes, and thanks to all for your concern and thoughts. It for sure makes going back out to the barn easier. Am going to try and sleep in a few hours shifts tonight, so will go for now.

Thanks again

Carolyn,

How awful for you and Prints to go through this - I am keeping you in my thoughts for a complete recovery. I lost an AQHA colt to joint ill 4 years ago and remember as if it was yesterday. Did your Vet irrigate the joints themselves with antibiotics? If not, I would get a second Vet's opinion who has actually dealt with joint ill. I would also ask the Vet about exercise - mine did not want my colt doing any but you need to check with yours

You are both in my prayers,

editing to say "actually dealt with joint ill successfully"

Carolyn!!! I am praying for her and for you. I don't know anything about Joint Ill, so maybe someone who has can help. Sounds like the Vets are doing what they can. I will continue the prayers for her and you.

Hugs & Prayers.

Oh Geez Carolyn, I am so sorry, hang in there..

Carolyn, thank goodness you caught it early. I'll keep saying a prayer for your special little girl for a complete recovery - she is such a fighter.

Edited to add

One of our herd stallions is a joint ill survivor - unfortunately his case was extremely critical and advanced by the time his owners found him and started treatment.
