That was barn B.

I am just now reading the post about Mr. and sister. I am sick to hear about sister !!!!!

She has always been such a healthy girl. Never showed any signs of illness at all. All of our horses stay up to date on shots. We were in barn B, and thats where Mr. was. I did spray all of our stalls when we got there. Sister went to a different barn to stay with a farm and be hidden for the birthday girl.

What exactly is EEE ??

please keep us posted on little MR. He has been shown all year, never has shown any signs of even stress.

Was there any sick horses around these two????

Hope things make a turn around for the better SOON !

Thinking of you all,

Linda Killion

Mr. hasn't been around any sick horses. Only had 2 others at Nationals and they are fine. EEE is Eastern equine encephalitis and is from infected mosquitos. I really don't know that much about it but we do vaccinate for it. As of tonight, the vet's main concern is him not eating very well (since the creatine level has gone down considerably). He's being watched 24/7. He still doesn't seem to think that it's EEE though...even though it sounds like he does with his sister and all.

I hope he turns a corner soon and is doing better. Let us know.

Is he at a vet clinic or a hospital or university?

It's a hospital, Frankie. He's in the critical care barn so he's always being watched..

I will post an update when the next blood work comes in which should be by 11 am tomorrow.

Sister was not around any ill horses. There are 4 farms that were stalled together and none of our horses are sick, not even any of Cheryls horses including the weanlings. We had a total of 34 horses between us and no one took ill. IT is all very sad. Cheryl cant even post .

I hope that Mr is doing better. Looking forward to GOOD news on him in the morning. More prayers...

I'm so sorry to hear about Cheryl's filly;

I sure hope the bloodwork for Mr. will be just that little bit better (well, a lot better!) tomorrow morning. Prayers here for him to pull through this!

So sorry to read about your horse being ill. We lost a foal last year to congenital kidney problems and failure. It doesn't sound like EEE though as EEE is very quick moving and most horses are extremely sick within a few days and often euthanized within a day or so.

I would definitely be worried with the gums, temp and heavy amounts of snot. Thank goodness he seems to be improving.

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

I'm so sorry and upset to be reading this thread. I do know I've bought quite a few horses from Erica and I know she vaccinates for encephalitis.

MR is very much in my thoughts and prayers. I myself saw him in Lexington this year. He is a beautiful little guy.

Me too Jill! I have switched horses back and forth with Erica all the time and still will. I don't know anyone that does more for their horses than she does, and I would trust her with any one of mine any day of the week! I know this has upset her with the little horse that passed, she does care very much for each horse she has.

Anytime you have that many horses in a small area like at Nationals you are bound to have different bugs floating around, some horses are resistant to certain things and do not show illness but can be carriers. There also is not a vaccine for everything that can be passed from one horse to another, and just because you have given the correct shots does not mean they will not pick up what you gave them the shots for. Sometimes it just means it will not attack as bad. I had asked my vet about all the shots and he is the one that told me that. I think we were discussing West Nile at the time and he said the same goes for any preventative shot.

I will keep Mr in my thoughts and hope for a full recovery. He is a cute little guy.

I know minih, I think this is one of those things that no one knows about or can stop...no one is to blame. I know he was taken well care of. You can't prevent everything..somethings are bound to always happen..

I think that it is just a sad coincidence that both of these came from the same place. We know Erica has always cared well for her "kids".

How's Mr. Today??????????????

I cant get him off my brain.!!

Is he eating any better. He always wanted more , come feed time !

Is he still on the same feed that Erica had him on? Just wondering, because I know sometimes if it is changed they dont eat as well. Erica usually gives some of her feed to anyone she sells to, until they can get some.

I sure hope the little guy is feeling better. Please give him a hug from us, and let him know we are thinking of him.

Did I read that you had a sick filly also? (If so) could somthing she had been passed???

Just a thought , not blaming at all. I am just so puzzled.

People are right though, horses, like any animal can pick things up and pass them on.

It does seem like there were several horses to get sick and some die at nationals this year. It happened in barn B too. Some had to be given IV's there. Do most people here spray their stalls at shows when they arrive? I know there was a show held at the expo before our nationals, our stalls needed to be sprayed, or does spraying even help?

Thank goodness we made it home with no illnesses. All of Ericas show horses are out being horses now and getting fat !!

please know we are thinking of you all and hope Mr. gets lots better soon. Keep us up to date.

We don't have a sick filly..we were talking about the other one that just passed away. Mr. is eating a little better..most everything is progressing very slowly. We did have him on Omolene 200, but the vet has him on something special now...something about imbalances...he's eating more hay and lots of grass.

How scary! Will keep "Mr." in my prayers. Hang in there.....worrying about your sick babies is no fun.
