Hello! :saludando:
Charm is now 8 months old, and getting into everything. tuesday night, he sqeezed his itty bitty nose between the bars of his stall, which the other horses can't fit into, so its never been a problem. he grabbed the handle on the outside somehow, and when he pulled back, it pulled his jaw out of alignment.
there was blood spattered on his stall, dripping on the shavings, and a nasty thing that looked like a red hot cheeto hanging from his mouth.

i totally freaked out! got on some rubber gloves and took a peak inside. my first thought was he was loosing his first tooth, and there was just lots of blood. nope all his teeth were there. next thought, lacerated tongue. nope, his whole tongue was fine. then i made him open his mouth more and found a gash on the bottom, and that his bottom teeth were all crooked!!!!! :new_shocked: i new that meant something with the jaw, and hoping it wasnt broken.
we called our wonderful sweet vet Dr. Grey, who was more than willing to come out of bed at 1am, and come look at my baby.
: love this vet! so he confirmed what i was hoping it wasnt: broken jaw!!!
he said with a few wires and roughly 1,000 bucks, it could be fixed. the next morning, we were in a trailer on our way.
well it was really hard for me to pry myself away from the hospital, but i still had to go to school today! so i gave him a big hug and left. i was really on pins and needles waiting to hear how the surgery went. when he finally called within a few hours, he said he had just finished the surgery. my body nearly went numb! i couldnt wait any longer to hear how he did, and yet i didn't wanna know! (ever get that feeling?)
well, thank god, he did great. --that was the first time i had breathed since we drove away from the hospital!--his teeth should be straight, and it should heal alright. :aktion033: only thing is, he has to wear braces for 8-10 weeks. BRACE-FACE!!!!!!!
so i dont know how he'll get along with a metal-mouth, and hopefully his face wont be so messed up he cant show. i had plans of taking this lil guy to nationals this year!
this was probably the scariest experience i've ever been through, ive never had an emergency where i had to haul a horse to a hospital!!! and the mares are really sad. they'll take a bite of food, then stare into his stall......
so please, if you have some
: 's left, send some charm's way for an easy recovery, and getting back his perfect face.
and just so you know, this is Charm taken about a week ago.
prayers appreciated!
