Protecting faucets

What methods work for protecting faucets that are inside the pen with the horse? My sister is thinking of putting a plastic barrel over her faucet with a hole for the hose to come out. She doesn't want to use anything wire, as he catches his fly mask on things.

At my old barn each stall had their own water. I had hubby put wood boards in front of all the faucets stained to match the barn. I left a water hose attached to each of the faucets, cut to the size I needed. No one ever messed with the water hoses. Shadow did figure out how to turn the water on, bad horse! Then he would just leave it on…. didn’t even have the decency to turn it off ! What a brat! So I had hubby place a small piece of cross fencing over that. It worked really good for us, plus it looked pretty
