Puggley Dogs

Thought you might like to see these cuties!

I am not sure we need a new breed but they are cute as all pups are.

Nope. Sorry. She took a RESCUE puppy FROM THE POUND and bred her when she got old enough. These dogs are mutts. Cute--but mutts. Go to any shelter or rescue and you can adopt/rescue an equally adorable puppy and save its life--because there are so many irresposible people indiscriminately breeding dogs.

I get so frustrated when I see these "designer" puppies all over the place. We have "Trade Days" here in North Texas and "breeders" come by the dozen to peddle their puppies. The get $200-$900 a puppy so it's a mojor revenue source. The majority of these puppies have a combination of internal and or external parasites, respiratory infection, Parvo--you name it.

Anybody with a female puppy wants to have "just one litter" (hmmm...reminds me of horse owners--if it has a uterus, it MUST reproduce). Spend a day at the shelter. Spend a day at your local PUREBRED dog rescue--having papers is no guarentee you won't become disposable.

"RARE" ?? "NEW BREED"?? :nono: . If this person was "A compassionate animal lover" she would have had the little female spayed when she was adopted from the Humane Society.

I agree with Dr. Pam! Mutt's make excellent pets and people just want more money! Labradoodles are MUTTS, Puggleys are MUTTS, Goldendoodles are MUTTS, Peekapoo are MUTTS.

Just because you give a silly name to a dog, doesn't mean it is a breed. Unless you have registration papers and are recognized by a country's official kennel club all you are is someone looking to make money off of a mutt by being irresponsible!

Yeah, I think they are cute all puppies are cute. I go to Sundance feed and seed and see all these "new breeds" of dogs...can't think of the latest it is a boxer something cross...anyway they sell for between 4 and 7 hundred dollars....wonder what pure bred and papered dog raised by responsible breeders are bringing? Not that. That is how the market gets distroyed. I can tell she loves her doggies very much, and the puppies are gorgeous, but to continue the breeding and expand isn't a good thing.

Thanks for sharing. I think I have a mut in the back yard. I don't know what he is...supposed to be a chihuahua...I think he is a maxi chihuahua

Sorry to have offended y'all. Just thought you might like to look at them. I am a dog lover...and a sucker for puppies.

It did get me thinking...about this family...who loved a dear little "mutt" so much that they wanted to try to preserve her qualities into a line of dogs. Also made me look at where all those purebred dogs came from...if you go back long enough, they are just mutts bred to what their breed originators wanted.... and many also carry defects that the breed originators would not have wanted. Maybe this is also true of these puppies; and then again maybe they are healthier than their purebred ancestors...we just don't know.

Not condoning it...but she doesn't have any up for sale...and certainly isn't calling them designer dogs. It does amaze me that a rescue let her have the pups without a spay/neuter contract...maybe it was before those were common....things used to be much easier...before the concept of designer dogs....nowadays, most people don't qualify for adopting humane society mutts if they are truthful...don't have fenced yards, or their cats are allowed to roam outdoors, etc.

I guess its another thing that makes me proud to be free and able to have my own opinion...just like this family.

I've always used the term "Puggly" to describe plug ugly things, be dogs or whatever. Interesting site, the puppies are cute, but I wouldn't choose that "breed" of dog, just not my thing.

You go mountain waif, Adorable Pups. Just adorable. I LOVED looking at them cute critters. I thought when I read the title, Awe, we get to see some cute puppies.

I had no idea there was something wrong with having a new breed established or talking about it. My all time favorite dog was an accidental breeding of a chihuaha to a jack russell terrier.

I have 6 dogs at my house, 5 AKC registered dogs (all spayed and neutered except one 3 pound chi that I am afraid to put under due to her not being the most healthy, Purebred dog and the anesthesia worries me with her seizures) and then the one half chi, half jack russell who I wouldnt trade anything for -BEST DOG EVER .

( Jack russells; who years ago, were NOT a recognized breed, right? but now are highly sought after)

I cannot, myself have any more dogs, as 6 is more than enough. I do not condone overbreeding NEW breeds just to make money, but some new combinations are good for peoples needs, why not. You were so right, many many breeds were not recognized not all so long ago.

They are adorable. But they are mutts and if the owners can find homes for them, fine. But I have a problem with people going out of their way to breed more puppies into this world to make money when there are over crowded shelters all over the world.

I totally agree with our Humane Society Shelters in this area requiring that all of their dogs and cats adopted out be spayed or nuetered. I believe that it's a standard practice for all shelters.....

I would love each and every one on this Forum to make the effort to pay a quick visit to their local Humane Society or Shelter over the next two weeks....... And either leave a $5 bill OR a bag of dog/cat food. (Just a note.....I do! ) Once you make the effort to check into your local shelter to drop off a bag of food, a bag of kitty litter, or some canned food, you will SEE why humans don't need to "invent" a new breed.

I think it's important that we stop and consider and help those little beings already on this earth before we start jumping in and trying to create NEW ones.

Just My Opinion,

MA

I am the owner of two "designer mutts" as I call them. I got both dogs for the love of the dog, not the breed or appearance. One is a Puggle (Pug x Beagle) and the other is a Lhasapoo (Lhasa Apso x Poodle) ..... Yeah, they might be a trend for now, but in my opinion they are mutts, but hey who knows what they'll evolve into years and years from now. Every breed started from at least two breeds to begin with.

Boss Mare,

You have a Puggle? Do you have a photo? I remember when they showed them on the news and they were so cute. I too am a sucker for puppies but know my limits. All but one of the dogs I have ever had have come from a shelter. And Mini V, I am with you on stopping at your local Humane Society and helping out. We donate food.

I think they are adorable!!!

We have 5 pure dogs (4 shih-tzu, 1 collie) and one mixed mutt. We love them all.

As for some of the "designer crosses" being mutts, well maybe so but they are desirable mutts and I feel worth the cost. We seriously considered buying a labradoodle and ended up buying a blue merle collie instead as we felt that was the better option with our horses and goats. The price of labradoodles didn't make me blink twice. I could care less if they come with AKC papers. As my dogs are "just" pets, I have not ever sent in AKC papers since I have no use for them. Ditto on the CFA papers on my himalayan cats. Pets don't need papers.

Weird..I never heard of "designer dogs" until yesterday LOL and last night I took my son Marshall to pick up his football gear and this young girl had the cutest puppy - I was asking about her and she was a "Chi-Weenine" Chihuahua and mini-Doxy mix - I would have taken her home in my purse

: They bought her from a pet store who bred them. I agree with Jill that so many of them are "desirable" Mutts (I hate that word... I like ARBs (American Random Bred) better

: )

I agree to stop at the humane league and drop something off (way too important not too) Ours often goes around on weekends to get support at malls/stores/etc - which gets the word out...

Just another person pretending to love the dogs and really only out to make money!!

Makes me sick to the stomach.

No love involved, just dollar signs pure and simple.

Breed two cute dogs together give them a cute name and claim to have founded a new breed- like my Cocker-Doodle Frise- who, I was given for nothing and who was bred by mistake.

I never tried to make

a) a new "breed"

b) money

out of her though.

...and people wonder why so many do not post here anymore...sad to think of all the negativness displayed about this site ... no dogs or puppies are offered for sale on this site....

I kind of like "Lergnom", it's mongrel spelled backwards. How about "All-American Who Knows"? That's another favorite of mine.

C'mon Lois, that's a little harsh. As someone else just pointed out, we all have our opinions. Yes, they are terriblely cute. Most puppies are. Please try to understand my persective, though. I deal DAILY with people who are poor pet owners and the pain and heartache that comes from our disposable pet society. We had 3 calls today from people wanting to give up their pets due to 1. a new baby 2. a divorce 3. moving. One of these is a 8 year old heart of gold Labrador

I guess what really got my goat was she bred a puppy she had gotten from the Humane Society. I have refrained from making any negative comments on all the puppies being produced by our Forum members--all the "oops" look what my dog or cat just had. I DID make a comment on this because I had just had a particularly bad day of death and disease. I will once again crawl back in my hole where I read and occasionally answer newbie questions that everyone else ignores. You're right--your over reaction to my feelings on this subject hurts. Sorry I hurt yours.

They sure are cute

Not to argue with anyone here, but isn't that how all dog came to be? They were bred and bred until people got the dog they wanted?? Kind of like minis? I hope I don’t offend anyone with that, but minis were bred down from standard horses (I don’t know what breeds? More then one I’m sure) to make a mini??

I agree totally. Back in the late eighty's - early ninetys - I raised and showed A.P.B.T. Though I love the breed, love lots of other breeds as well - I have promised my self that I will never buy another purebred. Dont get me wrong - purebreds are great, especially if you want to show. But my showing days are over and I know there are far to many dogs in the shelters. Interesting thread. Lori

About 4 years ago, my male poodle bred my long haired chihuahua. Both registered dogs. I had bred her to a chihuahua, and thought the breeding took. However, the poodle knew differently, bred her I don't know when, (obviously when I thought she had gone out of season, and let her out of her kennel), and the result was a chickapoo. I kept her, and she is absolutely adorable. Last week I saw an ad in the newspaper for a "new designer breed" It was for chickapoos and they started at $300.00. Can you imagine? Guess their owner had an "accident" also!
