At how many days of gestation can you normally feel the babies move or kick?

Just curious!

Thanks

Bill

Sometimes as early as 5 months, but more typical for me is 6-8 months and later. Not sure of the actual days gestation, I've never took note of that.

I would guess from the photos on my website, you might be able to feel movement around 140 days, based on the approx. size of the fetus in the photo.

I have 2 mares due. We saw the foals or rather the movement on u/s. By the stage of one mares bag she is due the end of Dec. to January. However, I have not seen any movement. My other mare is maden and I have not seen any movement on her either but, she should be due in March. Whould that maybe mean we are having two fillies???

With the first mares last foal it was moving all the time and it was a colt. Do you think there is anything to the movement and sex of the foal myth?

My kickiest two foals prior to birth BOTH ended up being fillies...one kicked so much from about 8 months along til foaling date that I named her "Here For The Party" because she wanted OUT!

Hi Bill,

Like Kim I have felt a for sure kick on a few mares at 5 months, but on the average it is at 6 months of age or a little after that I can feel movement usually.

I agree that six months is when I get the 'for sure' kick. Prior to that there are some questionable flutterings which probably are the foal, but it is not a certain thing. Around day 180 is when I seriously start feeling at mealtimes for kicks.

For me the first "kick" is at 5 months, but it's more like a FLUTTER. A TRUE felt kick happens at 6 or 7 months. And from 9 or 10 months on, I've been able to actually SEE the baby moving or kicking.

Oh, and the best time of the day to feel of see is either during or just after the mare has eaten.

Everyone says they see the foals kick when the mares are eating .

My mare is in with the stallion that made her pregnant and he is a bit over weight at the moment...in fact if you didnt know you would think they where both pregnant LOL.

Anyway when she eats yes you can see something move but when he eats its the same..!!!!!!!!!!!So what i'm sayng is i dont think a lot of people see the foal move at all, their bellys just move when they eat LOL LOL

I agree with the 5 month date, Bill. BUT....you have to know what you are "feeling" for, as it won't be a definite "kick" at that point. I describe it as more of a "fluttering". I hold my hand flat on the mares belly right in front of her udder and push up with slight pressure. It may take a few days of doing this consistantly before you feel anything. Then at six months, I can usually feel definite kicks.

I agree and if you try to feel at feeding time the baby is usually more active while mom is eating.
