I have to say I am looking here at these numbers and WOW we are family of three living up here in the NW. My hubby is in the Army and I must say that if $38,000 is considered low income then wow are we poor. Whoever out there ever says that the Army pays good is lying. We are lucky enough to make $25,000 a year and we live near Tacoma. Sadly our pay never changes unless he either he gets promoted or demoted. The only thing that does changed according to the area that we move to is the BAH, which is for housing if we live off post. Which we do so that way we can find the cheapest nicest place to live in and then pocket the rest to live off of. I have to say I am quite the bargian hunter so I really do make our money stretch...I have always been like that though.

I agree that the income from being in the service isn't the best. One nice thing about it is the discount on things when buying from the commissary and not having to pay hardly anything for medical services which can be the things that take a huge cut out of peoples earnings. Our first child was born while hubby was in the Air Force and all we paid out of our pockets was $11.00!. The service can be a great place to get an education and training for jobs later in life. I do thinkour service men need to be treated better after being in a war and injured. They deserve much better than what they have been getting. Mary

Mary you are very right about the medical being covered. Thats one of the good things. And of course education and training. Josh works in a prison and I have to say we will be making alot more when he gets out and hopefully works for a federal prison. Which right now he qualifies for we just have 4 more years to go...The commissary is nice thats for sure,. Theres no other place to shop that is that price...I do sometimes shop around for my diapers for our daughter. I buy whatever is cheap...And I use coupons too.

One more thing to make that money stretch farther.
