For those of you that missed the birth:

My mare Lucky Charm had her foal at 1:18 am this morning. This is our first live foal from her. I have had her 7.5 years!

She was on Regumate from the begnning and I have to tell you it was one LONG pregnancy as each milestone was passed; 90 days, 120 days, 200 days, 250 days, 300 days....

She made it to 328 days and we have a live foal at last. He is a loud black medicine hat colt. Busy day here, but I will try and get some photos to post.

We Foal is doing some updates and I cannot update my message board, but will be updating my personal message "Chat" area.

Call me superstitious, but we spoke in codes about her. "L.C. Is......" Never wanting to say her name regarding the pregnancy.

I have a eraseable calendar board in the barn and each month I would put on LC .....days. I would zero in on that date until we passed it.

I do not think I took a breath until she was 300 days.

The day I saw the baby move in her I was elated all day long.

I am soooo happy for you, I can feel your excitement in your post.....I have never had to have a mare on Regumate, but I can imagine the waiting and worrying for 11 long months!!!!!!!!!! Congrats! Can't wait to see pics!

Edited to ask a question?: Will she always have to be on Regumate, or once their body has been through foaling, will it go on to handle foaling normally, or will they always need help?

She lost a filly at 212 days in 2004 and another filly at 88 days in 2006.

She is a beautiful black bay frame sabino overo pinto mare with an exceptional "puppy dog" personality.

Frankly, I think I would keep her on Regumate the next time as an insurance policy. It is expensive, but not as expensive as loosing a foal.

Here is a photo of her:

Congratulations on your new foal! He sounds awsome colored! I am very happy to read this.......as we have a mare bred for '09 and she is on Regumate. We have tried for over two years to get her in foal. Found out this year that her progesterone levels were way to low for her to carry. She will be checked again at 90 days. I'm hopeful that we, too, will have a live foal next year!

Hi Joanne,

I love watching your mares Foal. I was watching her last night and she was very restless. I just new she was going to foal . I went to bed around 12:00 just couldn't stay up any more , I get up this morning and yep there was a Foal . I told my Husband I said I told you she was going Foal. Congrats. I am looking forward to catching more of your Mares foaling Its a good learning experience for me as my first one will be in April 2009.

Regumate has certainly saved more than one foal here.

Congratulations on your new one!

How much Regu-Mate did you keep your mare on?

How exciting for you. The picture of the dam shows a beautifull animal with great color. I am so happy that all your hard work and dedication to the finding a solution and the time of daily doses proved rewarding. Congradulations
