Hello,

I would like to build a round pen for my guys. My problem is that I have limited flat land. Could someone tell me how much area I will need?

Thanks in advance!

Our round pen is made up of the small mini panels. I think we use 13 panels and a gate and its plenty big enough since we usually work three horses at a time. If you are working one, it doesn't have to be as big but you want enough room they can move out good.

Most roundpens for large horses are about 60 ft. I think for minis that 40 ft diamater will work. I have a 50 and it works great for my minis I dint want it too small to cause problems with the legs.

Ours is 60 ft. full size panels as we have big horses too! Works great!

It depends on what you want it for. I use mine for training and I like it a bit smaller, 30 feet in diameter approx (10 8 foot panels) with solid walls, as it prevents them from evading you in any way and keeps their attention on you - no outside distractions. We exercise in a larger rectangular paddock as I don't believe in lunging babies.

BTW, I use mine for conditioning my halter horses and for beginning driving training.

The one at my barn is probably 60 ft and I think it is perfect. Not to small to damage the horses legs but not so big that you dont have control over the horse. You can also practice a little driving in there and set up some jumps without the area being to tight.

Mine is 40' and I like that size great for minis

I have lunged 2 B's at the same time in it and it is fine. It's been painted and had the tops sawed off level since the pic but gives an idea of what 40' looks like.

since we moved i have to re set up my round pen. im going to try a square pen instead and see how it goes. The german trainers and spanish ones swear that a horse works better in a square so what the heck im going to try it!
