Ok guys I need your opinions on this one!

I am so torn as what to do!

I have a wonderful 5 year old mare that I am wanting to breed next year (she is a maiden mare) but there is just one thing.... She LOVES to show! and I love showing her! Is it ok to show a pregnant mare? Obviously I wouldnt be showing her while she is heavily pregnant.

She is a beautiful mare and is spectacular at driving and I have got a drop dead gorgeous stallion lined up for her with a great show career and many world class get to boot!

She is the only mare that I am considering breeding out of 3 and it has taken me 2 years to hunt down the perfect stallion to compliment her. So this is something that is important to me as well. ALOT of thought and research has gone into this one!

Thank you everyone!

I showed this little girl this year, she was about 3 months along gestation at this show. Bred mid June...show was last week of August. The show was only about 20 minutes from the farm though so i was not along time on the trailer. She did abort last week, for unknown reasons so she is now open for next year..going to breed her back in March. The show was over a month prior to her aborting so no, that had nothing to do with it.

She was hiding that foal well...like i said abot 2-3 months along here..

Pulled her straight out of the mare pasture and put her on the trailer..i did nothing special with her..she was just out being a mare. Went Champion sr mare and Unan Grand Under.

Depends totally on the mare. You'll have to just watch her closely and see. A mare I just recently purchased was shown and did great. Then she was show just a few months pregnant and developed ulcers. Too much stress for her I guess.

I think it was 2006 National Grand Champion Over mare foaled within a week of winning that title.

It depeds on the mare.

If she isn't stressed at the shows now..she should be okay with it. I have shown pregnant mares several times, with nary a problem. I think it is good for them to be driven, and kept in shape. Probably better for them than standing around getting fat, as mine are now that I have my driving gelding.

l think there fine if they are in shape and it's what they do anyway. The one we showed was 5 months along and did everything that year and received the high point performance award but did miscarry a few months further down the line. The following year she was in foal again but decided at the first show she didn't want to jump anymore though she still drove and did the other classes as usual. So now she's retired but doesn't seem to like that end of missing shows a whole lot so we left her open and we'll see if she's willing to show next year and do everything...l do know a lot of people frown on preg mares showing in all performance classes but to each his own...
