About if a snake is poisonous??

All I can think of is....."If red meets yellow, he's a friendly fellow. If red meets black, put him back."

I am really hoping that I'm wrong with how that goes...... :new_shocked:

I always heard, "Red and yellow, kill a fellow, red and black, venom lack".

Thanks Laura! Sure hope you're right! Hubby caught a little snake in our house earlier and I am sure it is a baby milk snake. I've been playing with it and it bit me a couple times.(didn't hurt/no marks at all) But then I got to thinking about that little saying and wasn't very happy with the one I came up with.

: LOL!

Okay, ICK! Seriously, Mom got a pretty bad infection several years ago from bites suffered while trying to SAVE a small blacksnake. Clean out those owies and watch them for infection.

Yet another reason not to play with snakes:::::::::Shudder::

I heard it this way......"Red on yellow kills a fellow......red on black a friend to Jack". Now I have to double check!

Check this page out.....http://www.southalley.com/snakes_redyel.html

Have only heard 'red on yellow kill a fellow, red on black, friend of Jack'.

Knew this was for the Coral and Falase Coral snakes, so found this site. From the pics, seems the saying above is the right one.

Coral Snake

Sounds like a milk or king snake to me..... no worries about venom.

The little line I know is "Red and yellow, kill a fellow; red and black, poison lack". I too have been bitten by little king snakes, but the ones I ran into had such teeny little teeth they could not even break the skin. If the skin has been broken wash it of course, but it sounds like you won't have any trouble.

When this little guy bit, it didn't break the skin at all. I just saw him open his little mouth and he tried to "strike" me. but when he hit my hand, I just felt the faintest little poke. But it was a sharp little poke like if you just barely tapped yourself with a needle.

Sterling- I could get your link to work. I copied and pasted and got the "forbidden link" message.

Pepi- Thanx for the link on coral snakes. This guy is not a coral. I am sure about that. He's got red on black.

He's a REALLY pretty snake. I'll get some pics after my daughter has left for work. He's got the prettiest black and white checkerboard belly.
