First clip for Billy. We are going to a nursing home on May 12, so I wanted him to look presentable, and be cleaner. It's amazing all those little owies and bumps that are revealed by a clip.
I was going to bathe first, but weather not cooperating, so I used the air compressor before clipping. Halfway through, I gave him a break and I scrubbed the blades with soap and water. Hopefully this will keep them sharp longer.

Yesterday we drove through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This wilderness area was established by Theodore Roosevelt. The bison here are genetically tested to be pure American Bison--no cattle mixed in. Besides looking at the beautiful flowers, we drove up close and personal through a large herd of bison. I've never been so close to the calves before. Some were at the milk bar, some napping. Some curious about the vehicles.

Oh he's doing so well!!!! That's wonderful to see. How is he doing being all by himself?
I think he is doing better. Sometimes he goes to the end of the pasture so he can see neighbor horses across the road. But usually he stays near the corral, and he actually spends a lot of time IN the corral. Maybe he feels secure there? But he never goes into the shelter. I moved the salt block outside, which is not ideal as it makes a mess, because I wanted him to have access to it. I have noticed he has licked it. I top dress his feed with pink salt, also.
We recently had a very nice rain which lasted all day. Rusty wouldn't step hoof under either shelter; he just stood in the rain and got soaking wet and muddy. If he were metal he would now be rusty indeed!

Rusty is a natural on the teeter totter!

It always seems a bit strange to me when a horse with available shelter chooses to stand outside in the rain. I suppose it feels like a warm shower? Plus a mud bath! 😁
