My new truck, only 13,000 miles had the check engine light come on, and wouldn't shift gears! Got it in to the dealership and 4 hours and $400 later was on my way. Turns out that squirrel I had seen hanging out under it had done some chewing and had chewed through a plastic covering a wire covering and then two wires to the module that tells the truck how and when to shift. Obviously not a warranty item.

So, anybody have any great ideas on how to keep the squirrels out of my truck??!!! :new_shocked:

Probably something that doesn't involve a gun, since I am afraid I would shoot my truck instead of the varmits.

Try a sheet of Bounce?????

Sorry.....couldn't resist.

That has happened to us more than once, only with mice and rats. Can you get a live trap from the animal control or Dept of Ag. We set ours under the vehicle and baited it with peanut butter. On vehicles we don't drive very often, we put D-con under the hood--and write a note to ourselves, pasted on the windshield--not to drive the vehicle without removing it!!

How can animals that are so cute be such a pain????

That is the best laugh I have had all week.. Thanks

I actually have a dog that eats old dry sheets so I guess he should be healthy as a horse.

Still giggling

Wish I was closer I'd loan you my barn cats. Nothing better than good barn cats.

I only have 2 that are strictly outside if it moves its fair game for them. I wish you luck with your rodent troubles. When I lived in FL Squirrels would trip the jack on the transformer next to my house almost every day, the power company didn't like me. I totally feel your pain.

What you need is a good ol squirrel dog :bgrin :bgrin then fence in the truck as the dogs run and tada no more squirrels chawing on your cables

That really stinks!

darn squirrels. Hunting cats and/or a good dog is the only thing I can suggest.

Good luck and I hope they don't do it again.

I've heard that they don't like mothballs. We keep a baggie of mothballs with small holes punched in the baggie so the aroma escapes under our hood of our truck and under the motorcycle cover. So far they haven't done any damage there.

They do like chewing on our log cabin and I have this week live trapped three of the little "cuties" and relocated them far far away. The first one was a real character he growled and read me the riot act. The other two just tried to chew through the metal and did somersauts. Because it was hot, I put the trap on the floor in the front seat and kept thinking that if they got out I would be in big trouble driving down the road with one loose in the car....but the trap did not open until I had them safely out of the car and opened it on purpose to let them go in the middle of the forest here in the mountains. Three down and whole forest full to go!

Squirrles and pack rats are the WORST... Poison will only work if they EAT it. Most of the time they just pack it away and dont eat it for awhile. I had rats living in my Tarus.... I had to set rat traps on top of my motor with TIN FOIL on the trip. I killed 1 within an hour.

i HATE squirrels and chipmunks. Nothing cute about the little things (used to to think they were)! They will eat through almost anything to get to my grain. I'm not joking when i say they will take a whole bag of grain in a few days!! i've had to resort to metal barrels because they'd chew through ANYTHING else including very heavy plastic crates ect. Metal barrels are a real pain when you a short 5'4" tall and the barrel is 3.5' tall..LOL.. try reaching down into one of those things! We shoot them on a regular basis and they just keep coming! they are mutant squirrles and chipmunks and i think they breed like rabbits! I saw a squirrel in the road the other day and wa slike "boy that's a skinny squirrel".. but i got to thinking.. Probably thats what a squirrel is REALLY supposed to look like when it doesn't have free access to feed at all times... he just hadn't been to my house yet!

I swear they have some sort of telecom system that they announce to squirrels and chips from miles away!

One day i went in and about 50 little baby chips came scampering out! mom and dad are breeding like crazy and showing them where the gold is at a young age!
