Hubby went to pick up food I have 2 horses on, low starch, low sugar. It is made by Kent, but he was told it was not being made any more.

Can you please give me ideas of what to change to? It has to be 6% of starch or less or my guy gets all out of whack.

The elevator did have a replacement, but was too high in starch. For now he only has grass hay, not going to get him all out of balance by trying several things.

If you could let me know where you get it too. We have a TSC, Rural King, and a couple elevators.

Thanks for any help.

yikes, which Kent feed did you have them on?? We buy a Kent feed here at TSC that is low starch. We are feeding the Kent Dynasty Show ration balancer.

I would HATE to hear that it is not being made.

I use Kent Success LS

My husband asked if they were no longer going to carry it, or if they weren't making it. He was told they were no longer going to make it. Tried to confirm with other elevators, but they do not carry it so they did not know.

I have been able to get information on other feed, but the percentage of starch is not always known, or in some cases just not given. I thought if you were using it, whatever it may be, you would also know what the starch level would be. I sure wish companies would stop making something and then turn around and take it away.

McCauley's makes a low starch feed called Allem I believe. I can check on the spellings to make sure that is right. I don't know if that is available in your area or not. I know Nutrena Safechoice is suppoed to be low starch, but I don't think it is as low as you need it. Good luck, that is a shame they gave no warning they were discontinuing your Kent feed.

Thanks Anne, that was the only feed I couldn't find a percentage on, but will look again.

If I have the percentage, we lower the recommended feed amount to get the percentage down. Then make up for it in hay and supplements. Usually molasses free beet pult. Takes awhile to come up with the exact combination that keeps them looking and feeling good. Thanks for the site.

so glad to see you feeling better!!! How is sophie doing?

Thanks Kay,,,,,,,,,,Sophie gets better each and every day and myself and vet are very pleased with her progress. Got her feet all trimmed up, got rid of the shoes and it has made her much happier. She now goes out for a longer period of time and that is making her happier as well.

Carolyn,

I don't have the sugar/starch breakdown, but the TC Low Starch product has an NSC of less than 10%.

Here's what the TC rep told me in an e-mail:

I'm not sure if you noticed our Safe Starch Forage product on ourwebsite (www.triplecrownfeed.com)? It is an orchard grass/timothy chopped

hay with a 6% fat guarantee and a vitamin/mineral pellet. It can be used as

a complete feed and has an NSC value less than 10%. It is a grain FREE,

Molasses FREE, Alfalfa FREE product.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Kent now carries the Triple Crown line of feeds. It is a very excellent product line and well worth looking into. My mini's get the triple crown lite and my big horses are all fed the safe starch forage. You can call them and discuss your horses with them and they will help you develop a feeding plan. http://triplecrownfeed.com
