Shelley is right: HSUS/Fund for Animals is not very far from PETA in its 'real' aims. I wouldn't suggest becoming involved with them.

Carol Z. put up the info I was going to post, which was on another equine-related forum I frequent, this morning--yes, it WAS Lone Star Equine Rescue that was so helpful and supportive in helping CMHR get going, I'm sure--I believe they would be the place to offer support....Maybe you could contact them, Mona?

Lone Star = very legitimate, one of the very first rescues.

HSUS = political out the wazoo, monies rarely go to the animals

Sure sound like Habitat for Horses is the way to go!

As for HSUS, their conduct sickened me during a very public protracted dispute a few years back.

Lisa, You are right!!!

LSER is VERY legitamate. None of their members or BOD are paid for their services and their policy on the BOD states that the BOD is not compensated. They are all volunteers and are 501c3 recognized so your money is tax deductable. CMHR does owe a HUGE debt of gratitude for their help in getting CMHR ready to apply for the 501c3 and in helping CMHR get it's policies in place. While I can't speak for CMHR and where they stand at this time, I can say that when I was VP for CMHR that LSER was there at any time that we needed help and they did a great job holding our hands along the way!

Added: I have submitted the info on LSER to the company that I work for. We are doing fund raisers now, and they were asking for organizations that can use the help. Hopefully we will raise enough where I work to get LSER some monetary assistance of some kind.
